House Fire at Kalangadoo
« on: January 31, 2008, 06:27:38 AM »
From Adelaide Now
A HOUSE fire in the State's south-east destroyed a township property last night, causing an estimated $200,000 damage.
About 40 firefighters were sent to the Kalangadoo home after a triple-0 call alerted the CFS at 8.40pm.

The house is understood to be within the township and the occupants were not inside. No injuries have been reported or damage to neighbouring properties.

Fire cause investigators will arrive this morning to determine the cause of the blaze.

Is this Robert34 patch??

I think so - now let's see if I had this right, one truck broke down and couldn't get water out of their hoses and another one got bogged on the front lawn of the house. Sounds like a fun night all round for everyone. Poor buggers though!

Well it's totally gone anyway not that big but I'm guessing water was the requirement. And they timed it right too as they were planning on having a nice quiet social bbq last night and when the pagers go off I bet they thought someone was pulling their leg to begin with :-D  - That will teach them to think they can have a social life as well

Ok Ok let me clarify which truck got bogged and which one broke down even though i missed out by a few minutes due to being around my parents house but managed to listen on their scanner what was happening

Kalangadoo 34- Hoses wouldnt work so the truck had to be removed from fire ground for the problem to be fixed

Nangwarry 34- Due to the front lawn being soggy the appliance got bogged so Tarpeena 34 and Millicent Rescue were paged to provide water relay to Nangwarry appliance

Settle petal  :-)
I already knew which truck did what was just adding to the discussion to make it interesting (wasn't it the plug or something that caused the water problem :?)though I did think it might have been the sand that bogged Nanga's truck after I was out there taking pics this morning, I'd forgotten how sandy it can get in area's around there. Not much left of it poor bugger! :-(

Dunno what was the cause as we never had any problems with the hoses last year at that RCR last year they worked perfectly fine so maybe its time for the truck to be serviced  :-)

Just to add it turns out the cause of the fire was a laptop and battery which was left on standby mode while the occupant wasnt home so SAPOL fire cause investigators are gonna ring the computer company to find out if the laptop was put on faulty recall notice

The 'Doo blew a 1/2" plug out the back of their pump, so I believe it looked more like a fountain for a little while. They had it fixed pretty smartly though.

I'm not entirely sure what happened to the Glencoe truck - initial report said something like their pump wouldn't go, but they seemed to be operational by the time we got there.

It looked like the front lawn had been watered for a good week or so by a small travelling irrigator. Very very soft sand. Nangwarry was a good anchor!

The extra appliances were brought in to cart water (most trucks returned to the 'doo for water, roughly 8km round trip?), and for BA. For a while there, it looked like the whole group might end up crashing the 'doo's cosy bbq. Not enough chops though.

And the way I hear it they didn't want to share and were seen quickly scoffing down all remaining food on the short drive to the scene anyway  :-D

The CFS might as well build a 2 bay station for Kalangadoo then give us a 34P for structual fires and a Light Rural Appliance for responding to grass fires  :-D
