I have been informed that CFS staff were telling the COQ crews last monday night that they should only wear their PBI if turned out to a structure fire otherwise wear your nomex...........do they not have anything better to worry about.....

nup, i didnt hear anything of this sort...just a Group Officer at 20 told us "All wearing PBI??" Good stuff to the sir

Staff should keep up with the times, because a ever growing percentile of volunteers are doing better jobs then them.

Oh my god, I seriously hope this is not true I did a COQ x 2 and we did not see any paid staff but they would of politely been told.

Don't you love it if the statement was true you don't see them for every other job you go to and no station visits but soon as something big is one out they come!

So what's the actual policy for Structure fires only? What about if your at a busy country station or urban fringe brigade get responded to a structure job and one the way back you get paged for an RCR you stop on the side of the road and change gear as if!!!

Good heavens, NO !!!!

You drive back to the station where your other set of PPE has been stored in
the approved manner, change there and store the first PPE in the aproved manner.
Then respond (with due caution and awareness of staff allergy to the risk of
being asked Questions) to the second tasking.

If, on arrival, the job requires the other set of PPE, you return to the
station, continuing to assuage staff allergies to risk (of questions), retrieve
the original PPE, change, correctly store the intermediate PPE, and return to
the ashes of the second job.

I trust this has assisted your understanding of PPE policy as writ.

Haha thats funny, but not surprising, people seem to do their own thing when it comes to PPE, and most staff seem to change their mind on whats what when it comes to PPE.

Yes the urban brigade are high vis brigades and we look like a mob of misfits good one to whoever the that twat is. mind you we got the mix and maybe match down pat out in the rural areas just as bad. I know from my own experience that I have seen members turn up in everything from new two piece to the one piece all on the same truck. Nothing like a bit of (in) consistency in our high vis fires

Interesting, the new uniform manual says you can pretty much wear PBI to everything except rural jobs, it also says the OIC can use his discretion as to what PPE is worn.

We wear our PBI to everything except rural fire because it offers best protection agaist body fluids and the like... oh and we also look semi professional when everyone is dressed in the same gear

The new manual also says no mixing of PPE, i.e. PBI pants and Nomex jackets.

Given that the Region One Commander was in charge of the uniform committee it could be something that he pushes a bit.

I always go for the mix and match in fact depending on the incident it can be a bit on the handy side of things half orange half yellow. I reckon it is better look than causals and a tabbard that I have seen way to often from a service

sure was Mike....there was a shitload of money left over from the re-directed paving of the RCR area at Brukunga and so they thought how can we usefully spend as much as we can by the end of the FY....so lets have a nice A2 size poster
