recently the members of Rossarden brigade in sunny TASSIE had two reason to have a party, after 20 years they have a brand new tanker and it arrived on the captain's birthday yes he turned 79 and is still very active in this brigade of only 7 members.. So does any other brigade have any active members in this age group???

Our appliance Kalangadoo 34 is 19 years old as it was given to Kalangadoo brigade in 1986 it is an open back 34 appliance and is the oldest truck in the Wattle Range Division

We have been told that were due for another 34 appliance & a new station maybe next year after the fire season or the year after but i would like to personally see Kalangado get a new 34 appliance as well as a Rural Light Tray 14 quick attack unit too so we can deal with grass fire before they get out of hand

HA.  Love it how you said they might give you a new appliance "After" the fire season...  You would think they would give it to you before... ?

I agree strikeathird but whenever our brigade asks about when were going to get a new truck the GO or DGO say were on the high priority list to get a new or refurnished 34 appliance

Plus if Kalangadoo were given a Rural Light Tray 14 Quick Attack unit the brigade members such as myself who dont have a MR licene and turn up first to the station for a fire call would be able to respond first and give a sitrep on arrival to the scene as well as do fire supression

No brigade members in this age range but our front running appliance is 24 years old =) I think this must be running as one of the older appliances in the fleet.... Anyone know older appliances?

Robert may be you should talk to the working party that is looking into working partys about the new station and your 34. have you guys got a working party for your new station and if you think you need a 14 aswell you better start doing something about it dont sit back and wait make sure you guys have your say and not the groupies....

I think Clarendon can match that firefighter age, if not break it.

We don't have any Active members that old, (Although some are getting on :P), Our oldest member runs the bottle recycling shed instead...
As for age of trucks, if you had the slogan "Fighting fires since Ash Wednesday" on the truck, do you think that would be a comfort to the public, or a worry? :P

Considering something like one in three appliances never made it to Ash Wednesday due to "technical difficulties" - don't think it would be a comfort :-)

But maybe a comfort to have a firie or two thats been around that long!

Our oldest brigade member turns 63 this year. He still attends training and incidents like all our other members.
