Seems to be too much "this is MY truck" mentality in the CFS.

Realism is they are CFS trucks, and can be moved from one station to another at any time, or may be sent to a job without any local crew on it at any time.

I remember a recent job I was at where there was going to be a complete crew changeover, but same vehicles staying there. One crew member was not going to relinquish keys and took the intervention of a Regional officer to convince the member that the vehicle was staying, and the member was not.

However, I also understand that the brigade's fit the bill when the truck breaks.

I'm sure it's just a troll post Flame.....but in case you had forgotten....in 1971, this Brigade and the local community and sometimes the Council raised the hard earned $$ to provide the appliance...NOT the EFS/CFS. They well and truly OWNED it

Having been on deployments with Brigade and Group vehicles present, nothing pisses you off more than getting your Brigade appliance back having been trashed needlessly by the crew that used it on the shift before. No-one looks after a vehicle better than those who have to fix it later. Similarly, its dammed annoying to have your Brigade appliance in a group of deployed appliances and  not be able to use it because some numbnuts Logistics/Planning Officer in IMT is not flexible enough to change appliances on a plan

Anyway, hop back under the bridge, theres a good fella

Mr T, just when I thought you had changed, you come out with a clanger reply....Flametree's couldn't be more accurate.

ITS NOT YOUR TRUCK.....its allocated to you, its not 1971 anymore....GET OVER IT, if you have a serviceable truck that fits your needs then that's the end of it. A bit like the current insane allocation of new trucks to stations that do less calls than I have fingers.

I have to agree with Mr T ( he beat me to the posting!)

At the time of the pictured Rendalsham appliance, it was well and truly "my truck"  for the reasons outlined by Mr T.

With the introduction of ESL funding, that is really when it all changed, and the appliances were truly the state's appliances, and could (and can) be moved anywhere.

There are three types of people in the world.  Those that watch things happen, those who make things happen, and those who wonder what happened.

sorry, to break your heart pump.....but the world will keep turning. And I dont remember saying it was 1971. I was responding to this thread in particular which is about a photo from 1971, but it was Flame who turned it into a anti CFS rant on Brigade ownership....but what would u expect I guess.

The Government Fleet Manager provides a basic truck with radios, pump, lockers and a basic hose and crappy tool fitout. For many Brigades that is sufficient and they use it and maintain it as provided. No problem with that at all. Some Brigades turn the truck into an effective firefighting appliance with better gear, better hoses, secondary pumps, better tools and equipment, better warning lights, hose winders, satnav,  etc etc

For many of us, our Brigades raise their own money to supply additional fitouts to make our life easier and to provide a more effective service. Most of the features on the current builds of appliances come from Brigades fitting their own stuff, so while the socialist view of community ownership is fine to a point, it is human nature to want to use what u are use to and what you use every day. No-one is saying they arent the Government Fleet's appliances (they arent actually the CFS' either) to move around as they see fit; just that there needs to be some level of condsideration for those that maintain them saving the Fleet Manager thousands of $$$ in the process. It cuts both ways.

I really sometimes wish we did still build our own trucks, but alas I guess we will just have to put up with it and spend the fundraised money on making them work................................. :-(

A great picture of Bedford in past times and it shows the effort involved by the community to get a truck in those days. The thing was that everyone in the community contributed to a truck and it would be "the communities" truck. Thanks for posting it.

Mr T I did not mean to offend, and I certainly wasnt commenting on the older system where brigades did indeed raise money for their own trucks (or had them donated)...perhaps the wrong place for my comment, but it was replying to another post early on.

It's great that brigades raise money for extra equipment they think they will need, but surely each brigade realises they may "lose" that truck at any given moment, or a new build prototype will no longer fit the equipment.

I am sorry that my opinion doesnt agree with yours. If you didnt agree, a factual reply would have sufficed, without the personal attack.

i don't mind people disagreeing with me.....just be prepared to be responsible for what u say and back it up with proof. As for personal....well...with a username with Flame in it, combined with the failrly blunt criticism in your post....surely you didnt expect roses did you?? Honestly, I thought I was fairly tame this time......see what happens when I start agreeing with people like Pump....it affects the way the earth spins and stuff....
