Hi All,
Not an ammusing pager message, but one i found interesting none the less.

SHQ: URGMSG ADELAIDE HILLS SES RESPOND TO 6 CAMPBELL AVE, CRAFERS - VEHICLE ON PRECARIOUSLY STEEP LAND, OVERSHOT DRIVEWAY PERSON IN VEHICLE DOES NOT WANT TO TAKE FOOT OFF BRAKES, FROM SAPOL COMMS.... < 11/02/2006 02:52:36

Now while i didnt attend this job and have no furhter details of the incident than what i've read on this pager message, i find it slightly disturbing. I read 'VEHICLE ON PRECARIOUSLY STEEP LAND' and 'PERSON IN VEHICLE DOES NOT WANT TO TAKE FOOT OFF BRAKES'. While depending how you read this some may take it as a RCR incident (maybe/ maybe not?) But regardless I would see it as a person in a dangerous situation who is distressed and holds fear for their safety. WHY WAS THE NEAREST RESOURCE NOT RESPONDED? I would have thought that Stirling CFS would have been able to respond in a much more timely manner (responce times aside, purley on that they are alot closer!) with equipment to assist the motorist/ resident, eg. Road Crash Rescue brigade, Low angle rope rescue brigade with a number of responce vehicles, including one with a winch to assist in stablisation.

While the SES are more than able to perform the task, why would you want a distressed person in a dangerous situation any longer than they have to be???

As i am not aware of all the circumstances I may be on the wrong track.

not the best call from MFS Comms... was smoke coming from the chimney for sure... becasue someone had lit a fire in the fireplace... LOL

I have to agree with skirkmoe on the basis of only knowing what the pager has said..

Only thing I could think of is they had some further information ?

But I def. believe stirling would have been there in a much more timely manner..

( And that domestic with the smoke from chimney sounds like a joke ! )

If the response isn't in their directory then they just put "respond to" and put further details further on in pager message or by radio.

i believe if the incident cant be described by what is in their CAD program like "Backyard bonfire, or seige" or anything that isn't covered by their paging system then they just put respond to.

Being from a brigade that doesn't get paged by MFS thats as much as i can say PF but there should be someone on this forum to explain it better.

The MFS did exactly the right thing. The caller was a local CFS Brigade Captain who requested the response. "im sure ~~SOCC~~ MFS Comms know what they are doing and responded appropriate resources for the call."

Generally you get a "Respond RCR" "Respond HAZMAT" or such when the incident can be described in general terms. "Respond to" is meant to be used when the incident doesnt come under a general heading. It IS meant to have details following though

Eg: "Respond to [time / date blah blah] Cat up tree that has fallen onto house fire and trapped owner in car"

but how would the chimney fire have started if the fire place wasnt lit.... but yeh they do around that area... friken cold some times even in summer.

i would suggest he/she means the speculation over SOCC or MFS Commcen dispatching appropriate resources, and people whinging about it.

a lot of the time the Ops Centres have a lot more info than they can put on the page...
