so a lot of the time they let stuff burn and just monitor it with a 14 equiv....and call for help when it looks bad.
Maybe we wouldn't have some of our fuel loads if we did the same here.

Interesting thing which was pointedly -not- mentioned in the TV show on
California fires the other night. North-Western Mexico has exactly the same
weather, topography & indigenous plants as Calif, but doesn't get "mega-fires".
Why not ??
Mexico lets scrub fires burn, only defending human assets.
Consequently, they have no-where near the fuel loads. Therefore, their fires
are a fraction of the intensity and suppression costs of the ones on the
northern side of an imaginary line on a map...
Maybe we shouldn't extinguish anything when the FDI is less than 25 or 30
unless a much higher FDI is predicted for the following day...
