I was under the impression, that if STATE and more so REGION is at code red, that group bases are meant to be manned for the taking of alerts..

Any one that can elaborate ?

That's great if you actually have people that can man/woman the station during the day. Not sure about the COSO's and SOP's, appears the link on the CFS website is broken. Will have to check at station.

Some details are contained in the 'SA CFS Operations Management Guidlines - Third Edition' (dated: 01/11/2004, ver 2, 81 pages). I downloaded this document from the CFS website last year, so it might be updated by now.

From the way I read the document, Regional Control Centres are activated at incidents. They can also be manned at high-risk times if an 'operations support brigade' can assist. The decision rests with the Regional Duty Officer at the time.

The State Control Centre is activated as per the 'levels of prepardness' (green, yellow, orange & red).

I read this as private research into other emergency service operations procedures and I would welcome correction to the above if I have mis-read.

priority 3 = get there when you can.....
priority 2 = get therequickly; however no lights and/or sirens, all driving within Aust road rules.
priority 1 = life threatening.... lights and/or sirens, exempt from road rules (EXCEPT driving with due care)..... within SOP's etc etc...

Because SES are second-responders within the metro region and not the primary life-threat responders, majority of calls are Priority 3 or Priority 4.

You will see more P3 or P4 pages when the MFS take over SES call taking. The priority is being built into the computer system.

Happens a lot with storm damage and trees down, where the property damage is not going to get worse by a few hours delay (eg no rain & tree stable).

Not any more anyway - go back some years and you will find it in very old SOP's - the rewrite in the 1990/2000's took that out and standardised the P1 and P2 response - in line with other fire services.
Likewise MFS have transitioned (majority of the time) from code red and code green to P1 and P2

 :-D
