rule about not having family members on the same truck??? that is rubbish...

if that were true then we might as well fold all cfs stations, becasue almost evry single statio would have at least a few families in..

our station used to role trucks with an officer, then two family members from across my street (father/son) and two from my house (brothers)... wouldnt be able to do any jobs otherwise...

Once again the Wattle Range & Mount Gamber CFS Divisions escaped the wrath of today's bushfire weather despite having strong winds  :-)

However we might not be so lucky during this evening because of these paging messages i found on the paging website  :-(

I think the reason it keeps raining on Fire bad days is because the worst conditions are when a front is moving in, so you get strong/gusty winds, while its still warm... Luckily for us, the changes have come in the morning, before its had time to get really hot... (thats in my part of SA anyway :-P)...
As for the family member son trucks, I've also heard about that rule... Dunno where it came from, and don't know anyone that follows it... (Except Kalangadoo Captian ;))

Seems strange. We have a few families as well, and the majority dont respond at the same anyway. However, I think The majority of Brigades in our group are  family orientated. The father, son, uncle comment... so true!!

If your captain is giving you to much grief over it robert, just ask him to show you the paper its written on! Although I get the impression you would rather leave someone at home, which is fair enough....

You hit the nail on the head Mike and being that next month is likely to be the deadly bushfire month for Gambier & Wattle Range Divisions i'd rather stay at home and defend the house whilst my mom goes out

Because there arent many people in town who would stay and defend their homes during a bushfire as i've seen on the Ash Wednesday video they were all at the pub

Plus it would be the perfect chance to utilize my Emergency Response Warden training that i did in 2005 as well as test out my forward command skills  :-D

Well I Have Heard Of That Rule, However I Know Its Not Strongly Enforced Because It Makes It Harder To Get Crew. I Know Of Several Members In Our Brigade & Surrounding Brigades That Respond With Family Members.  As For Roberts Comment That Makes Sence, If You Can Leave Someone Home To Defend Your Own House & One Respond With The Truck It Covers Both Bases.

there is no such state rule

however...
as im sure it is known every brigade can (and should) have there own SOPs. these would be written by the brigade themselves and could include such a rule

It sounds a sill rule we would always be short if our family thats in the brigade did not all attend as that makes 4 people on the truck

Hmm, so it cant be found in that wad of paperwork..... So, either its lost in transit, or lots of brigades made it up off their own backs........ Seems a little strange that so many people have heard of it though, especially when its all put in the same way.

Tomorrow is a day of Total Fire Ban for the Murraylands,Upper South East and Lower South East of South Australia i found this out while listening to the South East Forestry SA weather forecast, but its strange Forestry SA South East has a Very High Level 2 declared for tomorrow despite the fire ban being declared  :?

Heres the messages that i have found off the paging site

Once again i am dumbfounded as to the reason why CFS and Weather Bureau havent declared a state wide fire ban for Saturday even though nearly all of SA will be in the high 30's-low 40's  :? 

After all there are at least a half a dozen fires going on around the state ranging from Coomandook to Spalding

Below are 2 pager messages off the site with indications that a fire ban should have been declared for the USE&LSE

1911393 17:01:10 20-01-06 SHQ: AMR, HELIAIR & AIR CREW INFO: FDI'S FOR 21/01/06. MT CRAW: 26 &35 , KUITPO: 25 & 36, STRATH: 30, 2ND VALLEY: 25 & 35, MT GAMBIER: 18 & 33, CNAWRA: 20 & 38, COLES PT: 66, LINCOLN 40 & 50, WUDINNA 81 & 94. < 

I also did come across another message which says about possible bans on Sunday

16:51:02 20-01-06 NO BANS IN REGION 2 TOMORROW - HOWEVER LIKELIHOOD OF WIDESPREAD BANS ON SUNDAY FROM R2HQ CFS -R2 FIREBAN INFO

It would have been good for CFS to declare one big fire ban SA for Saturday as Forestry SA South East have a Forest Work Ban starting from tomorrow morning until 24:00hrs Sunday night  :-)

The FDI has to be ABOVE 50 for a Fire ban..   There are some Bans inplace tomorrow, check the website for which ones.

The FDI's take alot of different stats to be made. Including Relative Humidity, Wind, Curing, Temperature etc etc...

Just cause it is hot.. Doesn't mean it shoudl be a fire ban.. I have been to worse fires on 28 degree days, with Howling wind...


Oh, and most the fires that are going were caused by lightening...  Fire ban or not, nature isnt going to stay away cause you put the sign out that says   ..  TFB.

Robert34 the RH is fairly high tomorrow in alot of areas and the wind isn't very high so thats why there is only a few fire bans.

Early prediction from the BOM is 8 bans for Sunday, not sure which areas though.

Sounds like the fires in the Ngarkat and Dangali National Parks could cause trouble if they are not rounded up tommorow, with warm weather predicted for the rest of the week there is a chance they'll go for a while.

I've got a real bad feeling that Sunday is possibly going to be a Smackdown vs Raw version wrestling match only it will be SA Fire Services vs Massive Bushfires in a Hell In The Cell Match

Cause tomorrows northerly wind is coming from Inland Australia or as we call it The Great Australian Blowtorch Wind a wind that can cause mass chaos if it gets a hold of a fire  :-o

Im hoping that the fires at Coomandook and Ngarkat are rounded up before the onslaught of more hot weather tomorrow other wise were looking at Black Sunday II  :-(

On pagersite today it said that sunday will be a statewide fireban with one medium heli bomber 1 strike team of 14's and 2 strike teams of 24's from NSW RFS being sent to Adelaide for the day

New South Wales fire service are sending over firefighters to help deal with the fires burning in SA and to try and control them from blazing a trail of destruction in tomorrows oppressive heat.

Who uses total fire ban signs still, they used to be popular but i don't think as many brigades use them as used to?
