If it wasnt for the salvo's im sure i would have starved a lot more often. However, I have to say as grateful as I am for being fed, it has been a little poor..... but im sure they are doing their best, and for that im very appreciative.

Am surprised they dont recieve anything for their troubles though...

I remember hearing that the truck etc was jointly funded (in the ESAU days), From what I understand the labour component of running it is just like CFS SES etc volunteer.

Don't quote me though - distant memory and I could be wrong!!!!!

youse need to get the McLoeds Daughters catering team, as I mentioned in another topic it was absolutely brilliant, need to brag about the chocolate pudding again, the fish, garlic bread and salad was good too.

haha
Michala Banas and the actor who plays Jodie (dunno her real name) is there though
"Jade" kept looking at us and when she walked past once she smiled at the crew.

Edit: stuffed up the acting name, it was Jade not Jodie who was looking :-P

Just for the record "Jade" is actually called "Zoe" :-P  I am not sure how I got the name "Jade" and "Zoe" mixed up? :?
------------------------------------------------------------------------
In bigger rural towns where there are restaurants and deli's etc do brigades ever get food from there or is it always voluntter places like Salvo's that supply food?  If it isnt the best thing then wouldnt it be better to nip into town on a rest and grab a burger.

Sometimes it is not possable to get the catering to a high level due to the location of the job or the time of the day,I know we are ment to be able to get by on our ration packs for 6 hrs but when its been a long fight and its dusty its fair to say that one does expect a good feed and a nice cold pale ale or two. Sure we have to do what is given to us and sometimes we work in remote areas and IMT do there best with what they have on hand to feed us....

Now subways mmmmmmmmm bugger not one here its an hour away in the MOUNT :-(

We use local deli's or takeaway places more often than the Salvos..which is great..it's very hard to expect your local deli to make 50 sandwiches at a moments notice after lunchtime..eg 2pm as the fire always start at meal times...I wish I had a dollar for the time a fire started just prior to a meal time!

I believe the tucker for willunga fire was rustled up by seaford logistics from Aldinga general store, they must have died when asked for 60 or 70 hotpacks!!

I was talking to heywood CFA group officer the other day and they no longer use local community groups for catering but use the hospitals at Hamilton and portland as they are able to provide 500 plus meals aday in a kitchen that is clean and that the health department approve of. he did say that they still use local pubs and clubs for fires where there are only 100 meals needed....
