what i dont understand is why the tender is only for 1300.....isnt there like 2500 BA operators?

Apparently there is only around 1400 BA operators in the CFS, hence the funding for almost the exact amount of PBI gold.

Maybe the extra money will go towards flash hoods, they also bought proban 2 piece for those who only had overalls with the dosh.

I think the CFS funded for extra PBI so when it's being cleaned by the manufacturer after jobs there are spares sets to hand out, correct me if I'm wrong though :-)

So you have world class gear supplied to you and they are offering to launder it for you and certify it serviceable and fit for purpose. Yeah a real pain!

I have been talking to some CFA friends and they have not taken up the lion offer of cleaning the gear but can take it to a industral lanudry as long as they have the correct gear to clean it with. Lion must supply cleaning instructions with all sets of gear that are sent out...

Is there a Lion base in SA, so it can be cleaned and returned promptly?

Firstly, Yes Lion are here in SA. Secondly, surely someone who make the PPC is in the best position to clean / maintain it. This way like Firefrog says, they certify it suitable to return to service, rather than Jo Blow from XYZ Dry cleaners, cleaning it, getting his money and he don't really care (or know) what the real purpose of the stuff he just cleaned is.

Lastly, don't hold your breath about getting flash hoods real soon. It still has a long process to run before they can be purchased. Tender is to get pricing etc and a plan in place for when it does happen.

We are a bit off topic here but the other good thing about the gear going to lion to be cleaned is they can fix any loose stitching etc.

We wash ours with a hose to get the most of the dirt off and send it away every now and then for a proper clean.

A couple of our operators got there gear a couple of weeks back and no there was no flash hood with them.

Does anyone know whether the tender has progressed that was advertised a while back.

Our PBI arrived a couple of weeks ago with flash hoods. I heard all gear now was being delivered with them.

which group/region are you in?  Might be a group/region decision if they are delivered with PBI or not?

Don think you get a choice whether you get flash hoods or not. Might pay to check with your regional office.
