Good luck to any one else applying for CAMS licenses and wanting to work at various race meets around the country... With responsibility and a little care, it can be the best times of your life too !!

A friend of mine who is a member of a 4wd club is now CAMS licenced. The 4wd club provides recovery vehicles for dirt buggy races and the event was transferred to CAMS for insurance purposes.

Another is a low official at the Classic Adelaide rally which is a CAMS event.

So there are many ways to become involved. Understandably, it would be harder for 'fire & rescue' CAMS people.

Congrats to all volunteers who do this. Otherwise we would not have motor-sport events.

Thanks from a rev head

Yea, there are are number of areas you can get cams accreditation for...

From Scrutineers to paddock support marshals, to flag, to track, to tow, recovery, Drivers support, medial, fire, spectator control list goes on... Every person who works "track side" or in the moat at a Motorsport event, needs to be licensed under CAMS for insurance purposes..

And you are correct, CAMS licensing and regs state that any CAMS motorsport event, must have Fire, Flag and Medical onsite.. so without the volunteers, a Race would Literately not go ahead !

Clipsal500 is done and dusted, topic now seems to have moved onto CAMS affiliation.

If you get selected to be a fire marshall for the F1, do you have to pay for accomodation and flights etc or do they pay?

If you want to go fire marshalling at the Grand Prix or Indy you have to pay all your own way. Accomodation, interstate travel etc.

Correct ^. You pay for everything except for track entry. You also get 2 , 4 day guest passes for friends / family.  You also get your fire suit, balaklava and gloves supplied.. Which get handed back, and you get them given out again if you come back the next year, etc etc.

So yes.. you pay your own way..

Not like the yankee INdy Fire and rescue, Team kool Green.. Payed to work fire and rescue for indy around the world !!  8-)

What a job.

It seems that they dont send CAMS licence books now only the Officials Trainee Licence Application form and a copy of cams racing magazine

You will love it!

Hows all your PPE for motor sport????
Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the ability to control it.

I got my first event this sunday at SEAC park just outside of Mount Gambier and i'll be a recovery official

When it comes to applying for Clipsal 500 duties next year i'll have to get some PPE which his best suited for motorsport Fire & Rescue Standby

I currently have 2 sets of one piece overalls and 1 pair of 2 piece overalls so the 2 piece set will have to be used unless im issued with PPE before Clipsal 500

Thats what i am aiming for P_F to be trackside at Clipsal 500 2007 maybe we might be on the same trackside fire & rescue crew... just out of curiosity does CAMS also pay for tickets if i want to take family or friends along with me  :?

Also P_F the telstar that i drove for a short time was the only backup car my parents could obtain on such short notice being that i was working for Green Corps at the time

If my sis comes down in the next month or so the telstar will be hers as she hasnt got a high paid job to afford an expensive vehicle

My first CAMS event went really well today and i got event 1 signed with only 2 more to be signed before getting the licence upgraded to grade 4  :-D

If i get the trainee licence signed off altogether in a short time SEAC might ask me to be their fire marshall for events as they dont have an official one at all 8-)
