chainsaws and helmets

hey i heard the other day that you can now wear your normal response helmet with the visor down when using the chainsaw. is this true? I'm interested to find out as i'm thinking of doing my chainsaw and i hate those other round helmets.

How much space do you have between the end of your visor and your chin ? Especially when looking up to see what is happening to the tree and the limb is at waist level.

Personally I have a set of safety/dust goggles which covers my eyes and perscription glasses.

Hate having wood chips bouncing between my face and the visor.. 8-)

This is a personal choice though because I have not been on a accredited chain saw course for many years.

pretty sure youve always been allowed to wear any CFS approved helmet...

just takes common sense to wear goggles/glasses under the visor, and ear plugs...

My personal choice is the chainsaw helmet we carry - it's lighter, has attached ear muffs and a long mesh visor (just below the chin) and allows for safety glasses to be worn underneath.

That combined with good gloves (to absorb the constant vibration) and a nice set of chapps and your away!

But horses for courses - each to their own  :roll:

worth pointing out that chaps are always a must... have seen many pairs of "used" chaps where they have saved operators from massive injurie.

I think chainsaw helmet with ear muffs is the way to go and always use the chapps.
