CFS replacement appliances
« on: July 08, 2006, 03:59:59 PM »
Wonder if anyone has dont the math on how much it will cost to replace all of the CFS appliances that are going to celebrate their 20th birthdays and beyond over the next 4 years or so. The appliances that are being built now are replacing the last of the `home built` custom appliances that were made pre-standard days and the rear entry Hino trucks. But diring the late 80`s the CFA built a heap of the Hino appliances 24/34 some orders were up to 90 at a time. It is going to costbig money to replace all these and a special budget allocation will be needed. Maybe someone in their wisdom will just say bugger it make the limit 25 years. Some of the appliances wont last that long.

Athol,so of those appliances need to be removed from service sure they dont have the mileage but they have worked hard and have been in parts of the state that are prone to rust. the time has come for a total review of what CFS wants and to at last get one company to make them all, this in turn may stop the on going problems with new appliances.

Of 5 appliances, two are hitting 20 years next year, and one has one year left on a 5 year extension.

Oh yes... replacements?

good point. Just to say that cos an appliance has been at a quiet brigade and hasnt done many k`s doesnt mean that it can be extended to more than 20 years. That was the whole reason for bringing in this quideline in the first place. Too many rust buckets responding to emergencies in the 80`s and before. One of Woodsides appliances that got replaces last year was 20 years old and the pump/body on it were from an even older one.No wonder it was getting tired. lol
