Some brigades set a benchmark time for appliances to go mobile in a cetain time from paged time. Does many brigades do this? When I was at Salisbury CFS they tried to get the first appliance mobile within 4 minutes of time of call. They monitored this over the course of the year for their own records. This would be difficult to achieve for many brigades due to travelling time of members to station.

We have managed to get out in 4 minutes of time of call or under by our book work it was an average for the year is 3.45 minutes

Day time: between 2.5mins(on a really good day) and 5mins

Night time: between 4mins and 6mins.

Unfortunatly the bulk of our members live down towards the beach and thats about 2-3km from the station so at night it hurts our turnout time a little...

4-5 Min Average Response Time. This Is With A Full Crew.

We usually have a crew out the door within about a day nd a half.

hahahahah an actual honest person.

i know of a brigade that sends the truck out of the door, after a certain amount of time, whether it is crewed or not... noticed them rocking up to a couple of jobs with only two people... oh dear.

Well I would like to add my two bobs worth. I am from a small rural brigade and durring the summer both vehicles are usually out the door within 5-10 minutes.

On the other hand durring the winter it has a tendacy to be longer - as alot of our rural members dont always carry there pagers (as they see any major fire risk)

Anywhere between 6 and 15 minutes depending where people are at the time.

but as an average 8 minutes. Our closest member that responds frequently lives about 3kms from the station.

Hmmmm I remember when we had a CFS mechanic who went all over the state doing vehicle checks and issuing defect notices,turned up at one brigade station to find their appliance jacked up on blocks and NO WHEELS....with cobwebs hanging through the windows of the appliance.....their response was the same we dont go to fire calls in WINTER

Good call Firefighter_SA.

CFS is a diverse group of people, covering diverse areas, with varying populations.

Interesting though, I sure many of our non urban interface brigades are used to driving an hour or more to get to a job and then in summer will spend at least 12 hours there (yes outside SOP direction) before returning home - yet I know many urban interface brigades are looking for relief crews within 4 - 6 hours.

Horses for courses!

At the ed of the day we all provide the same service, just our communities differ greatly. Nice to get a truck out the door when you are surrounded by 5,000 - 20,000 to choose from, not so easy when you are surrounded by 500 to 2,000.

As most members are day workers and day time is really tough for some brigades to get out the door at all...if you havent rolled within 4 minutes you default to the next brigade,if the page was from MFS and six minutes if its from SHQ,and thats with a crew of 4 minimum in a type 22 appliance,and two BA if going in MFS area.

That gets blown out the window sometimes thought... I know of brigades that ONLY have a 14 appliance...

They literatelly can't roll with a min. of a 22.

We had a call a few nights ago from the time of call to arriving on scene was 2.5 to 3mins fully crewd with other members arriving in there own cars at the same time, some memebers live 10mins away too (Not bad to arrive with the truck). But I know a brigade that responds some times 10mins after call with only the driver no other personell. but during havest we struggle a lill bit with truck drivers only.
