It seems almost everywhere Fire Trucks are Red,
wondering what people think about CFS having white.
I personally like it and would like to know what other colours people have seen from around the world.

Red would make us look much more like a fire service. Our Pumper looks like a damn council truck from the front. But then again, a bit more striping here and there and the same effect would be achieved.

this is the public perception and possibly why they dont payt as much attention to our trucks when we are responding to a call as they may to an MFS truck...

although the white does set us out as a seperate fire service to the Mets...

Not sure if anyone is into Adam Hills the comedian, but he is raising money for an orphanage in Cambodia by selling t-shirts with his catch phrase on it, "GO YOU BIG RED FIRE ENGINE!". Now "Go you big white fire engine" just doesn't have the same ring to it - does it Also reiterates that the public perception of a fire truck is red.

for a comedian, thats not very funny.

Personally I prefer white, but red would be kinda cool.

The fire kings in SE Forest are yellow arn't they ? Would be a good compromise for SES and CFS trucks so we look more 'together'.

If you catch a metro poublic transport bus, the yellow front does stand-out in the distance on the road, better than council truck white.

Also, would red be too dark on a night road block.

I know from my Sydney deployment experience that WHITE rules...they have red and orange..hard to tell the difference..they called us the White angels..

We've been white for a long time..if people can't realise that fire trucks are white too...we must do our jobs well and are unobtrusive...can be a good thing...and yes, white is better at night..

harder to keep clean though..

Since were the SACFS why not have all the trucks painted in Red,Gold and Navy Blue as that is the State Colours

I Don't Care As Long As The Truck Does What It Needs To The Colour Shouldn't Matter.  That Being Said, I Like The White Cause It's Different, It Makes Us Stand Out & I Think On The Fire Ground The White Is Easier Seen.

I Would Have No Issue If It Was Red Either.  It Would Be Good If It Was A World Standard That All Fire Trucks Be Red & Personel Units Be Made White That Way On The Fire Ground You Can Tell Them Apart Real Easy.

Since when are the SES/CFS 'Together'? Most of the time this discussion comes up here on the forums, people are quite agressive in their "WE ARE DIFFERENT!" opinions. I still suggest the SES dont do anything too different from the fire service, but I'll be quiet.

I read somewhere that white is the best color for fire appliances to stand out in poor visibility/night time etc. The only problem is many fire trucks are red cause its really hard to see white with a backdrop of snow (funny that). So hence the reason many fire appliances are red. But the CFS decided we dont have to worry about snow so we will go with the white.

Fire engines/pumps have been red since the begining of time. Hand powered/steam powered pumps in London etc etc All red. We used to be red.

ath, I read it about the colours of the fire appliances in a firehouse mag about 12 years ago.
A study was done in the USA about the colours of fire appliances.
From memory red was the colour most people thought fire appliances were
White was the safest colour ( but problem in snow)

All the colours have a different look -  I still prefer red though...

British emergency vehicles paint disruptive striping on the back of their trucks - I think with striping like this on the back and front of our white trucks, we'd be set

At the end of the day does colour really matter as long as a truck arrives to help or put the fire out.

the Mr and Mrs public just want to see and hear the siren coming to help.
