Is it posible to get the language filter relaxed a bit? I mean things like H E L L being filtered is just plain aggrivating.

I appreciate that certain words tend to be less offensive than others, but If I start choosing words it will get hard to draw a line. Therefore it remains our decision to have a no swearing policy.

Cheers  :-D

I dunno if you saw my filter experiment to see what filtered and what didnt  :-P but I was surprised that some words werent filtered when they could be considered quite offensive.  But ah well, we dont have much of a language problem in this forum, not the words that dont get filtered anyway  :-P

If you are going to filter H.e.ll then you may as well filter Heaven.

What is this? The Chrisitan Forum Society?

yeah fine, but h e l l is not a swearword (except according to yankie conservative christian loonies).  It's no good saying you don't want to start choosing words cos you already have.

Lets play fair :|

This site was set up in the interests of all fire fighters and rescue responders in South Australia.

The rules have been made clear from the start in both the user agreement that everyone agrees to on joining and the user guidelines in a forum thread.

I am not sure how allowing swearing would enhance the user experience :?

The site has so far been pleasant and safe for all types of people. The intention has never been to dictate or restrict free speech. What we have asked that all users respect other individuals and make SAFF a friendly place, part of that has been a no swearing policy.

As an individual you make the choice if you wish to participate in this site if you do you agree to abide by it's rules.

...but He ll isnt a swear word. Thats the only issue. If you're going to filter that, then filter Heck, Frick, Fudge, Bollocks, Sugar, Fiddlesticks, Damn, Darn etc etc.

Come on guys..... get a grip.

Why is it so hard to accept that our friendly administrator wishes to maintain the site in this way? Ive managed to get my point across all this time without a problem.....

In the end, Firefrog has to be happy with what he is providing us. That is morally, ethically, and practically. I can live with that, and i dont see any reason why anyone shouldnt be able to do the same(no matter how frustrated you get).

Take a few deep breaths, and lets get back to having some fun / interesting discussions.

If you don't like this forum then you can go to the new VFBA members only section and use the forums there.

To login you need to use your full name (inlcuding middle names) and your member ID number. If you don't know your number it looks like it can be emailed to you.

Once logged in I could only find the forums in the 'Site Map' link at the bottom of the page.

OK dad.... Mind you, I only see one 'younger' member in this thread bucking the trend...

Is it so bad to just ask for consistency?

How would swearing make things any better? In my humble opinion, swearing makes a post look tacky, and in a lot of cases removes credibility of any argument or idea being put forward.

Readers here are an articulate bunch, so isn't it relatively easy to find ways around those words anyway? :-D

The issue only arises when words that aren't swear words are filtered, and some swear words still are fine...
