Nah no photos. Wasnt really anything to take anyway. very few hot spots on the 20km edge we were patrolling. Our directions were to mop up 20m in. But i suspect a few hot spots 40-50m in are going to cause some headaches when it gets hot.

check the lightening tracker Robert34.....loads happening in the mid north area...and more to come in a couple of days....I think our biggest issue this summer is going to be lightening strikes...we had another start on EP yesterday in Hincks National Park...

I checked the Weather Channel lighting tracker on Austar channel 609 and there wasnt any lightning being detected.... any idea if this lightning band will hit the South East or move over to Victoria

You are right CaptCom that dry lightning storms will be our main headache this summer not arsonists

Im heading out at 8pm tonight on a relief crew. Sounds like things are pretty hectic at the moment. The Township of Glencoe is under threat but Mt Gambier is still 10 - 15km from the head of the fire.

I heard on the radio that they might contain one edge of the fire shortly but without knowing the full story im not sure.

3 strike teams that were on there way from victoria have been cancelled?

Strike Teams from Port Mac, Lucindale, Lacepede, Tatiara & Naracoorte?

These details cant be confirmed but thats what i have been picking up.

Tantanoola Fire UpdateMedia Release
3:40 PM 1 December 2006

Firefighters are currently at the scene at a large fire at Burrungule near Mount Gambier in the South East.

Reported to CFS just before 12:30, this fire is around 200 hectares in size and growing quickly.

The fire is currently burning in Pine forest, however there is the potential for it to move into more open land.

Fanned by strong winds gusting up to 70 km/hr, the fire has recently changed direction and is now heading towards Mount Gambier and Glencoe.

Firefighters from CFS, Forestry SA, are fighting the fire on the ground and are being supported in the air by four fixed wing water bombing aircraft.

Additional firefighters from other parts of the southeast have arrived at the fire and firefighters from the Mount Lofty Ranges are also enroute.

The Princes Highway and Springs Road are closed and people are requested not to try to enter or return to the area as access is restricted and the roads may not be safe.

People in the vicinity of this fire must put their bushfire action plans into place and listen to local radio for more information.

If the community would like more information, they can call the CFS Bushfire Hotline on 1300 362 361.
