Country Fire Service / CFS STAFF BEING VOLUNTEER OFFICERS
« on: April 26, 2009, 11:14:51 PM »
Hi crew,

I have heard that a regional commander is trying to stop all CFS staff being officers in their volunteer brigades??

I can understand maybe operational regional staff not being officers in the brigades that are in their region but staff officers and the like being cut from this they will loose such a lot of quality experience from brigades. I thought the CFS was short of volunteers and this is not a wise move, i believe if this gets passed then this will cause brigades more harm then good.

SAMFS / MFS COMMS STRIKES AGAIN
« on: April 25, 2009, 12:58:39 PM »
Is it just me or does something seriously need to change with the operators in MFS comms in the way they handle both call receipt and dispatch of both CFS and SES jobs. In standards of Comms centres they are very poor in service delivery and accountability for wrong responses.

Like the following do you apologise to the person that died in the car from serious injuries because someone just could not join the dots, know your job and know your responses:

11:24:11 25-04-09 MFS: *CFSRES INC051 25/04/09 11:23,RESPOND RCR,BALD HILLS RD,NAIRNE MAP 161 K 12 TG128,CAT VS TREE NEAR FREEWAY UNDERPASS FROM,SAAS P1,OBA020 NAIR00

11:29:24 25-04-09 MFS: *CFSRES INC051 25/04/09 11:28,RESPOND RCR,BALD HILLS RD,NAIRNE MAP 161 K 12 TG128,BALD HILL RD NAIRNE NEAR FREEWAY UNDERPA,SS,STRL19

11:29:43 25-04-09 MBKR: *CFSRES: RESPOND MT BARKER STATION MANUAL TURNOUT 25-04-09 11:29

11:30:05 25-04-09 MFS: FROM OAKBANK, STOP MESSAGE FOR INCIDENT, STIRLING RESCUE TO ATTEND, FROM ADEL FIRE

11:33:16 25-04-09 MFS: *CFSRES INC051 25/04/09 11:32,RESPOND RCR,BALD HILLS RD,NAIRNE MAP 161 K 12 TG128,NEAR FREEWAY UNDERPASS,MBKR19

11:37:48 25-04-09 MFS: FROM MT BARKER CFS STOP MESSAGE FOR INCIDENT 51

I am sorry but i think that this needs to have a investigation into the service delivery standards to make sure things are done as they should be.

Country Fire Service / Time for 3 Fire services
« on: January 28, 2009, 10:23:31 AM »
Reading the latest volunteer mag i find this interesting and the reason urban brigades cannot get anywhere in the CFS, time for 3 fire services MFS, CFS URBAN, CFS RURAL.

i quote "however, feedback from volunteers has indicated that some feel our vehicle are overly complex and carry stowage they will never use. other have commented that our vehicles have become overly "urban" centric...

When only 5% of CFS are really urban brigades with NO support and all the rural guys making these comments and being involved in vehicle committees how are we supposed to move forward. Fine if they think these 34P's are too urban then every urban brigade gets them and send the barn carts out to the sticks.

Country Fire Service / Is that the time,,,send the next resource
« on: December 16, 2008, 03:54:17 PM »
Hi guys

Just noticed today another Rescue which there seemed to be the same old long delay to get further help, someone from Onka Group might be able to fill in the gaps.

13:47:46 16-12-08 MFS: *CFSRES INC036 16/12/08 13:46,RESPOND RCR,BALHANNAH ,BALHANNAH MAP 0 0 0 TG140,BALHANNAH WOODSIDE RD OUTSIDE POST OFFIC,E 1 X TRAPPED,LOBE19 OAKB00 CFS Oakbank/Balhannah Response

13:53:13 16-12-08 LOBE: RESPOND LOBETHAL STATION SIREN MANUALLY ACTIVATED CFSRES CFS Lobethal Response

13:58:56 16-12-08 MFS: *CFSRES INC036 16/12/08 13:46,RESPOND RCR,BALHANNAH ,BALHANNAH MAP 0 0 0 TG140,BALHANNAH WOODSIDE RD OUTSIDE POST OFFICE X TRAPPED group rescue persons req CFS Onkaparinga RCR Info

Now i may be on the wrong path here but it seems if Lobethal are struggling at the 6 minute mark as a rescue resource time to get the next rescue on the road. How does this group respond extra operators from the group, do they respond in their private vehicles or do they repspond a fire appliance.

Remember if you standing there with no one cover your butt and send help. You can always stop a truck.

Incident Operations / Back to Basics...
« on: October 19, 2008, 08:17:21 PM »
Hey guys,

Lately i have noticed a lot that CFS volunteers from various groups from firefighters to Group officers are forgetting the basics...

Coming into one of the worst fire seasons in many years i just want to raise a few points.

-When responding to a reported grass or scrub fire and smoke showing do not be afraid of responding further resources...you can always stop resources if they are not required.

-If on scene and the fire is clearly not under control upgrade the job and request further resources in the first maybe few minutes on scene instead of waiting 60 minutes and announcing you have now lost the fire and it is spreading and would like some help.

-Don't just use resources from your own group, think outside the square and i hope CAD fixes this and almost abolishes group boundaries leaving it as a purely admin thing.

-I think Lofty group if anyone have the right idea knowing they are short crew during the day respond more to hopefully get a good response and when you do turn a few trucks back if they are not required.

-Give good sitreps and size up of fires and do not woffle on the radio with useless information. simple messages like the fire is not under control respond ... or we have a fire of this size that is controlled. let's everyone know what is happening, jobs lately there has been 30 mins of chit chat with no useful information except how "Fred's crops are doing" or "billy picked up the local paper today near this fire"

Time to think smarter and as a lot of people have said before you are all professional volunteers maybe it is time to take 5 and look back at the basics and acting like one.
