Title: Rest In Peace - Fred Kerr
Post by: JamesGar on October 10, 2005, 10:44:07 AM
Fred Kerr died yesterday.

Here's a chance for use to pay respects to the first Chief of the Country Fire Service.

I believe he was a founding member of the Stirling CFS in 1948.

I'm sure he'll be missed, and will always be respected.

Yes, he was a true legend of the EFS/CFS, worked well with the very limited resources he had. Was director from 1949 - 1979, won't see a repeat of that kind of dedication these days.

I never got to meet the man, but I have great respect for what he did to get the service to where it is today.

Rest in peace brother.

He was a true gentleman and put alot more into the EFS and CFS than he was given credit in those days

As long as the old CFS HQ building at Keswick stands there will be a memory of him and now there is also the Fred Kerr Building at Brukunga, in honour of his enduring efforts into building Australia's leading volunteer emergency service.

Whilst CFS continues to serve it's local and interstate comminities, his legacy will live on.

Every member and the general community has benefited from the efforts of this amazing man.

Also never had the opportunity to meet him but he wrote a wonderful letter to the Volunteer some years back in a reply to a letter I wrote in sipport of the history of our fire star.

Condolences to family and friends.

Rest in Peace FRED

I have been on nightshifts for the past few nights and was shocked to hear about his passing.

I only met the man once - and a true legend and the initial back bone of the Emergency/Country fire service in South Australia.

Farwell to a great man.

Saturdays Advertiser had a nice article on Fred's efforts and the history of his career.
