I see where your coming from but most ambo's and coppers wouldn't disconnect batteries or sort out oil or fuel leaks which is the fire services responsibility, but most of them would know if a patient is "trapped" in a vehicle.

Anyhow, might try to get back on topic!

Did you see on the paging site the other day a particular brigade informing it's members about a scout group coming to visit their station?

The final part of the message cheekily said "there might be female scouts coming....."

Wonder if that encouraged anymore of the stations lads to turn up! :-D

Seriously though, the right thing is done by comms generally and all services are called out.

But on many occasions Police and SAAS arrive first and find no entrapments.

I know of many occasions there has been stops put through from Police SAAS or other services and it doesn't seem to happen!

That is probably the biggest gripe :?

They make their own rules!!

I don't think they take stop calls from any other service.

Most the time when we are dispatched we know if there are any entrapments from comms.

I often think if in doubt, call them,(as per road crash rescue resource directory) but if a service on scene(e.g. Police) says that there is no entrapment and that they have traffic control under control, then they probably don't need to be there.

A fire service whether it be SACFS or SAMFS should still attend to make seen safe and clean up as that is a role police don't perform and nor should they have to.

Anyway, my opinion only, but I would be interested to see what others think!

He removed himself out of under the piano and began playing the sheet music.

Then two firefighters came running in and one said to the other "gee this bloke must have concussion cause that music is really sheet!!"

Unfortunately that could be true about the fitness level dropping after entry and recruit course but hey, if you are working fulltime with the Fire Service and have time allocated to fitness then why wouldn't you do it for your own well being?

I think there should be some training on SA Firefighter on how to use the spell check! (Training Probelms should be Training Problems) :-D

Depending on if you were applying for Retained or Fulltime positions there are different levels.

Fulltime positions at this stage have the higher level of fitness required, but if you are really keen on the job, most people could achieve this with training and persistence.

The retained level is lower, with most people with a reasonable level of fitness being able to achieve this easily.

However, who knows how this may change in the future!

This is one subject that will always be discussed heavily!

I personally think that what will happen eventually, is that a lot of the smaller MFS stations with small callout numbers will close and will revert to CFS.

The larger stations with more callouts will change to MFS and start at maybe retained or go straight to full time depending on call numbers etc.

Also, I think it would only be fair if this occurred, for crews to be selected from existing members of the particular brigades that are being changed over.

One reason I think it will happen like this is, (like already pointed out by others in this thread) is that the government (and unions) have said that there will only be one paid Fire Service in the state of S.A.

Like it or not, no one here makes the rules, so we will have to make the most of it when it happens!

There still is a possibility of one Fire Service, like what occurs in Tasmania, but I don't see them changing to this setup now seeing that both Fire Services are well established in S.A. and both have individual proud traditions that the government will not like to break!
(I believe that Tasmanian Fire Service has been all one service since day one - could be wrong)

Anyhow, could be interesting times..........

Tillerman might not be far from wrong according to sources I know!

Anyhow, our good old Skyjet is about to be replaced with a refurbished ex Adelaide Skyjet, so that should suit us just fine!

We look forward to it's arrival hopefully soon.

Country Fire Service / Re: CFS Star
« on: June 26, 2006, 12:06:23 AM »
The CFS and MFB if I recall correctly, both went with a new corporate insignia at around the same time.

I understand not too many MFB boys were overly happy about their traditional insignia shown on all appliances being replaced with the new "corporate" emblem.

Must admit, didn't here too many CFS members getting annoyed about their new "corporate" logo, but I would be annoyed if our service tryed to change our traditional insignia.

Can anyone remember what each point of the star (or cross) of St. John means?

I think it was perseverance,tact,loyalty,dexterity,gallantry,sympathy,explicitness,observation.

Let me know if I'm wrong!!

SAMFS / Re: Tanunda appliance?
« on: June 04, 2006, 01:36:48 AM »
Some of the smaller Retained stations might be starting to replace their F7 Volvo's with ex city FL7 versions due to new Scania's going on line in Adelaide at the present time.

Other than that, I couldn't be sure on why!

SA Firefighter General / Re: Fire alarms
« on: June 04, 2006, 01:30:40 AM »
It is SAMFS policy that we still respond, but may downgrade to priority two, to inspect FIP's as people have made the mistake of missreading the panel and checking the wrong circuits and finding no fire when in fact there has been a fire on another circuit.

There also is stickers on the FIP'S telling people to basically leave them alone until we get there to check them, as circuits being reset prior to our arrival make it difficult to find which detector had activated.

I think the CFS would have maybe a similar policy

Regards, Mat
