All Equipment discussion / Re: CFS Type 2 Pumper
« on: January 30, 2007, 10:19:10 AM »
Yep just the latest 7 have that fitted, there were problems at the start because the governers were run through the the cruise control which was registering as a fault and after a certain amount of faults the truck says i don't like this and shuts down (100 faults i think?). This happened to 2 trucks at the same fire which was a really bad time to find this out.
I personally preffer a hand throttle and a cable controling my pump rpm but it is alot better for pump wear, noise, ease of use, time etc. You can run the pump on a type 2 using the accelorator if the system does s*#t itself and they are currently being fitted with proper hand throttles as a back up at their first service.

750 US GAL pump, with 4 x 64mm inlets, 4 x 64mm outlets and 1 x 125mm storz suction inlet.

Yes they have an auto governer that controls the pump, E.g set the pump to 1000Kpa and it will maintain that pressure at the pump no matter how many hoses you plug in providing of course that there is enough water coming in to cope.
It will also adjust the revs down when a hydrent supply is introduced to still maintain that 1000Kpa...E.g if the hydrant is giving you 500Kpa the pump only needs to give 500Kpa to make 1000Kpa. Therefore reducing strain on the pump and also noise etc.
And yes if nozzles are opened and closed the pump will adjust accordingly.

Also the new SAMFS merc skyjets have these pump governers.

They are a great truck, it's just as with everything else in CFS it was jinxed and now DENNIS has a bad name in SA.

I would easily take a brand new Dennis over a brand new Scania as they are purpose build fire trucks from the tyres up. Scanias are still made primarily as delivery trucks.

Compartment Fire Behaviour / Re: Using 25mm Sidereels at Structure Fires
« on: January 02, 2007, 02:30:41 PM »
It all depends on your branches and pump. E.g a TFT 25mm branch will put out as much water as a 38mm Protek/Akron branch on a pump that has high/low pressure stages.

I prefer 25mm but i would use a 38mm if we had 38mm wajax like the CFA so then there is less leaks and they wouldn't be so hard to lug around.

EMA has nothing to do with what appliances people get, all brigades SFEC's are based on their own area and not MFS area.

So there for these brigades do achive something because the standard gets higher and higher instead of staying the same or even going backwards.

Tell them all to stick it.

We are in the process of making our own logo that represents our brigade specifically so that we don't have to go through all this stuff. Then we can get it printed wherever we want and whenever we want.

Yes thats right, bigger brigades that everyone winges about are the people that have got many things implemented or improved such as.....Appliances, turn out gear, RCR gear, Hazmat gear, Training, Turn out and comms systems... the list goes on.
And now everyone is using these things not realising who has put in the hard yards to get it for everyone.

Yes thre is an un named type 2 around.

Mt barker still have the dennis so we will have to wait and see where the type 2 goes.

Before this gets too out of hand it should be noted that Burnside is pushing for this truck to be the standard pumper in busy suburban hills interface brigades so i'm sure all of you will be praising burnside if one day one of these appliances rocks up on your door step and is exactly what you need for your area and conditions.

The thing is all Ema brigades already had a number eg Happy Valley 80/1 and when the system changed they had to have 4 numbers hence 80/32 just because they had a 32 and that fitted in. Of course almost all double digit station numbers were taken up already so they went to 3 eg Mt Barker 127/9.

« on: November 17, 2006, 10:41:40 AM »
Yeah the problem isn't where they are built it is who designs them, cfs need to design the truck with the help of the brigades that would get one and then tell the manufacturers what to build instead of just picking one out of a book that might do what we want.

Re cost of type 2 as discussed before they are around the $300,000 mark depending on stowage.

Sorry to be off topic again.....

Yes blinky there was your pumper and Happy Valley pumper next to each other and they decided to fix yours and not happy valleys due to age even though it is now going to have a tanker put on it  :?. They cut the chassis off at the cab and replaced the rest.

I can assure you that most of the urban fringe brigades are not happy with their supposed "urban" appliances. How could brigades like Belair and Happy Valley be happy with their downgrades.

For info Sandy is a member of Willunga and was previously captain.

As for Arthur he told us we couldn't have a stokes litter because we just used it to carry equipment in because we were slack and in all his years in Tea Tree Gully he never used a stokes, so theres his extensive experiance shining through.
