that they will have a place to come and bitch like we do but thye will also have a better understanding of the service's but also see that we train better than they dooooo

No wonder some MFS dudes think CFS is a waste of space with comments like that.

Yeah some CFS are trained better than some MFS guys but it goes the other way too.

Um it's not the MFS getting too cocky, they don't decide it's the road crash rescue commitee. I don't know about 30K's but it is definitely time they were recognised as a road crash resource.

And yeh full time can get a pump/rescue truck out the door without having to wait for crew or going short of crew so they should do it, case closed.

Woo woo, maybe you can use Mt Barkers trucks for wedding cars...

Not exactly It is actually the MDT in Adelaide station, for those that don't know every station has an MDT. It is used alot for training though.

It will be very interesting to see wether the brigade has the same issues with the new truck, then it might be saying something... as i have said before i know many people that have driven these trucks including moores employees and can not find the problem.

Leadership... there are always plenty of people to go on trucks.

Surely it is better to have a system with a pre determined response than just some group officer on the fire phone saying "Oh yeah 1 brigade will do for that house fire, it probably won't be much" like happens now..... how many times do you see only 1 brigade turn out to a job that 2 or even 3 should go to.

Country Fire Service / Re: SOCC/MFS Commcen merger?

The issue in some brigades will be getting someone to the station in 4 mins to acknowledge the page due to travelling time, this should be changed to 6 mins but i understand that the system is set up for 4 mins so i reckon it will change to 6 mins when things settle down a bit and someone has time to change the programs in the BOMS system.

As i said preferably the page should be acknowledged at the station but if distance doesn't alow that then someone with a radio should be given the job, if that person is the only one to get the page then at least they can ask for the brigade to be re-paged and for a default brigade to be sent. Like was said every brigade should currently have a system in place for this and if they don't they better get to planning one. E.g my brigade will default after 6 minutes if the truck is not MOBILE but this is only MY brigade that does this, other brigades may have other ways of doing it. As long as that page is acknowledged so that the brigade takes control of their response. This is alot better than if CFS just turned around and said if your not MOBILE in 8 or 10 or 12 minutes then you will be defaulted, that would just get messy.

There will only be 4 OCO's going even though all the paper work says 5....

It's not all that difficult is it? You have 6 minutes to acknowledge the page, that means you have 6 minutes to tell adelaide fire that at least one person in your brigade has the details, if you do not that means to adelaide fire that you have possibly not received the page and they will ring your ALERTS to see whats going on, if you don't answer your alerts they will send another brigade. It would be preferable that you acknowledge the page from the station but if someone does acknowledge the page elsewhere they should have a radio to monitor when the truck is mobile eg. a Captain or Group officer.

As part of EMA those brigades that do EMA will still have to go by the EMA rules when responding into MFS area.

2 questions/comments i have and will be saying.

1. When responding to MFS area do you have to go mobile with CFS and MFS seeing as they will be right next to each other?
2. I will just be staying on the state talkgroup until a station is on air.

Stuff them just stay on the regional talk group like you do now and they can do it, thats what they get paid for, i'm sure they will cope. What are they going to do sack you.

One good way is to just avoid it completely, just cut all pillers including the 'A' piller and fold the roof forward on the windscreen and it will usually just pull out and you can then take the roof away windscreen and all....

Yes this has been on the cards for a long time but cfs have finally realised that they better tell a few brigades about this before trucks start calling SOC aqnd nobody answers...

The boots are identical looking but structure boots cost a bit more, most people only get structure boots as it covers everything and weight difference would be minimal....

Must be a seaford thing....

And yes there is a srtructure boot and non structure boot, they both look the same but the structure boot has a steel toe...

Yes it is a worry.....Don't forget that to make a garment structure fire rated you need the whole kit, PBI pants and coat, Structure helmet, Structure boots, Structure gloves and Flash hood.

2000 or 2500L is fine unless you go dual rear axle then you could go up a bit. 750 or 1000Gpm is fine as long as it has a high pressure stage.

I think at least 2 CABA seats to help save locker space and it can be utilised in burnovers.
It would still need curtains, spray bar etc.

2wd is fine but needs good clearence and suitable tyres/ suspension etc...

Who is the region 1 vehicle committe rep? and how do i get an invite to this meeting?

All Equipment discussion / Re: Burnside Pumper
« on: May 25, 2007, 01:48:10 PM »
Mmm, i think Burnsides pumper has a 400gpm 2 stage pump which as you said would have been great for it's day.

You can hook any appliance up to a Bronto even a 14 if you are desperate, just depends on how high the boom is and how much water if any you want to come out the end.

If CFS were to get heavy pumpers or pumper/tankers i would think 1 in the following groups and they can decide which brigade can use it best... Mawson, Heysen, Mt lofty, Para and maybe east Torrens and Kyeema. Maybe also down the SE and the Riverland.

Who said it was a 1st alarm? May have been a reduced responce due to the chemical not needing suits?

I personally think the type 2 is not adequete because there are no areas in CFS that are just Flat Urban Stuff. Most of Vic is fairly flat. I would like to see an appliance with more ground clearence made, maybe a mercedes Atego. Another big thing is only one hose reel, CFS have always had 2 reels and do not have 38mm wajax fittings to make using flaked 38mm hose easy like in Vic and NSW.

I think more of a pumper tanker style appliance is the way to go maybe even with dual rear axle, One in each urban group that can do massive asset protection and can also deal with building fires, mvas etc. Also a better pump and roll system is needed with a spray bar and fire curtains. I also have no idea why CFS have gone away from Roof monitors as we seem to be getting less and less crew so a remote roof monitor could well save an exposure at a building fire. Another reason a pumper tanker would be good is you could have 4000L of water for use in areas with no mains water which there is alot of.

Country Fire Service / Re: MFS in Mt Barker
« on: May 22, 2007, 12:25:10 PM »
Yes it is about time we became one service, the money saving would be huge.

E.g Mt barker are due for a new station so SAFECOM should build a station that is able to house full time crews so that when the day comes paid staff can just move in with only a few minor changes. Thats what CFA are doing in larger towns that may go full time in the next few years. Also places like Mt Barker could have the same appliances as full timers so that instead of buying 2-3 new trucks when they go full time they can use the existing trucks.

Yes sorry i should have said....Every house fire is 2 brigades no question and 1 has to be BA i was just thinking don't SOC know this.

Our group is like yours in some areas with limited water building fires are automatic 2nd alarms.

I wonder why these 2 brigades were not responded at the same time, is there not procedures in place to say 2 brigades to every house fire. Obviously someone turned around and said respond another brigade to that...
