SAMFS / Re: Job Satisfaction
« on: September 27, 2010, 11:55:59 AM »
Pay is ok, lot of other jobs payless. It is easy to have a second job if you like. Shift work ( you will love or hate)
Any job has it idiots. You can have the best job in the world, but one idiot is one too many.
It is like anything in the world it is what you make it. Some guys still love the job after 20Plus years and other is is just a job. If you passionate you will love it. After a while it can look more glamorous on the outside.
All and all it is a great job.

When are they going to stop the going out for the stupid day with the Staries. The police recruits can't do it. The amount of recruits that get hurt is ridiculous over the years.

Wear PBI gold to a structure fire, half the time if you are in a busy brigade it is getting cleaned.
Try get a spare set

A car fire is a two appliance responce, this changed a few years ago because of a couple of cars that were on LPG that went bang.

Well go through the volunteer association if you like the toothless tiger.
Bring back FRAG, why did it get shut down?
Simple it worked and upset lots of people. FRAG had a few good wins.
The volunteer association will never work under the way it is currently setup.

Jaff, my post said the short term answer is to move an appliance.
Anything like an amalgamation in the CFS will take forever

Incident Operations / Re: 3rd Alarm Factory Fire Mt Barker

The CFS has a duty of care
So not having back up is a problem. The best short term answers is
The Group Officer ask Barker can you crew another appliance. If
the answer is yes, take another appliance from a brigade within
the group that can't crew it.
So it gets a brigade upset they are down an appliance, that they can't crew anyway. It might change a few brigades to get it together

Tough question to answer about the building was "well alight" from a phone call.
I have been to calls before that this has been stated "well alight"
and it has been nothing.
I have also been to calls on the way to the job 2nd Alarm have been called due to the large amounts of smoke showing.
Also  firefighters have rang 000 and say that the job should be a 2nd Alarm and the response has been wait till the fire service arrives, they will make the decision. I guess they get a few MFA's

Why did some firefighters not have PBI on when using BA?
Was it because it takes forever for PBI to be returned when getting cleaned?
How hard would it be to have a few spare set at the station, oh that right we don't have enough BA operators anyway

ALL Rescue / Re: RAPID INTERVENTION...IS IT WORTH IT?
« on: November 27, 2009, 06:42:05 AM »
Interesting comments, I guess some people can only comment about the patch they live in and see. I am not sure how you could make a decision about all three services without seeing most of them in action (which would be impossible)
I have seen a few country SES units which do a great job. The CFS has a few brigades which train almost weekly. The MFS has a few good shifts which do fantastic job.
On the other side you can find some very average units, brigades and 1 shift which has no idea about the “T” word (training)

Next we will be taking about which service can but rubbish fires out the best

Can't see the problem with the medal.
Nothing wrong with being proud about your service.
I am not in the CFS for medals or anything like that, but one day when you are old it would be nice to look back on what you have done for the community.
Yes I would like to swap all the CFS medals for a new truck, but hey it's a nice way of say thanks in this crazy world.

yes, but a fire on a bad day or a difficult location changes things.
What about the Mt Osmond fire, still on the road

What about MFS appliances that are in a strike team to CFS area.
Same problem 2 wheel drive,no crew protection, not much training on bushfires.
