How do other brigades get by with cadet trainers/supervisors?
Do you roster members of the brigade??.... Ask parents to help??
We have 1 or 2 people that do it all the time (the boys are running out of steam :( , want to give them a break)
Any ideas as to how we can get more people involved in cadet training?

We have a roster,and all members who help with cadets must now have a police check done each year,that would also mean family members who help.We dont use family members in naracoorte as we have a pool of members....

Have to bring our cadets up one weekend Adam for some fishing and may be a camp at the station????

We have about 8 ppl who help with cadets and we just swap around who gives the training and all the others just help supervise. If we need more help we just ask the brigade if there is anyone who would like to help with training the cadets

So when you swap around and get more brigade members involved are you getting a police check done??? Rules have changed where any member must have a police check done each year that is involved with cadets does not matter if they help for one nite or six nites....

No we are not getting a police check done for every person that helps, cause its really just not worth all the trouble if its only for one nite like it is most of the time.
As for getting a police check every year I havent heard that one yet. Either its a new thing that hasnt got to my brigade yet or its something that your brigade its making your members do. I am pretty much second in charge of our cadets and yeah like i say havent heard of that yet.

its a new thing and anyone one that helps at one or two training sessions must now have a check done......

We have only recently had the information come through about yearly police checks. Asked the entire brigade to do one at the AGM.... just in case they decide to lend a hand..... It only takes a few seconds to fill out aboiut 6 lines on a bit of paper.

Yes, but a police check is only valid for a year...

The police check for people working with cadets goes back till you where 18 year old where as a police check only goes back 7 years.Hope CFS get a discount on doing the check as it cost around $45:00 per person.....

I Believe The CFS Do Get A Discount Hence Why It Takes 3 Weeks For A Standard Police Check When You Join.
They Can Be Done Quicker But Because They Process The Other Requests First CFS Dont Mind Waiting If Its Cheaper.

Yes get the parents involved. It then becomes more of a family activity and your also training the parents as well. you may even end up with more operational/support crew this way. Also ask brigade member wether they want to be involved. do not do this in a group because there may be some shy member that would love to attend and help but feel weired about putting there hands up if in a group. I know I do some times.

How does insurance cover work for the 'parent helper' if they are not a brigade / unit member ?

Yeah I'm not sure how the insurance covers them however you can write up some sort of waver of sign then up as auxillery members. Most parents seem happy to go auxillery.
