The obvious solution is to train up more operators for Lobethal, and in the mean time put the brigade on a dual-rescue response, such as Meadows have done.

If other responding brigades can supply some operators its nice, but you need them on the road straight up, not half an hour later.

I dont believe this problem has been common for Loby?

Hahaha Zippy, Red/Blue is not a type of colour blindness though. I dont think a lot of people really understand how colour blindness works.

JAFF, i understand what you mean, however why is it ok for SAAS, where as i said almost everything is colour coded? I see no reason for the exclusion in SAMFS, when no other SA service has the exclusion [except perhaps private industry services]. As  you said, probly just another way to cull off numbers in the huge amount of applications.

Ive never understood the colour blindness issue for MFS.

Considering nothing that i can think of is colour coded... however for SAAS everything is colour coded and yet there is no issue with coloru blindness.

Also ARFF dont have a colour blindness issue...

Very nice website, well designed, and i like the overall look of it.

Dunno about the wording of the stories... all a little too american for me.

I have seen this used in Surf Life saving & scouting camping trailers, but not in other emergency services.

Bicycle inner tubes stretched over the equipment they have loaded on roof racks and trailers. The inner tubes loop over one end, stretched and are attached to a strap on the other end.

Quick, safe, firm hold, does not damage the equipment (surf ski's are expensive) and they are free from your local bike shop because the tube cannot hold air from a puncture.

Car tyre inner tubes are handy for that to. Cut them into segments, and use them as big rubber bands to hold your rolled 25mm together. not sure if this is common outside of my brigade.

- Not at any 2+ appliance job ive ever been at!.. Sure rural jobs maybe, but what about all the over resourced prangs and car fires, alarms and rubbish like that..  - I have only seen Command Cars at 2 Alarm incidents or above.. - Is that what you meant?

Geeez.... mate, you need to spend some time in my group. Cant sneeze without falling over a command car.

I think its more likely to be beneficial to the brigade being on the appliance used for primary rural response, as this is where the old fat vollunteer fire men are likely to run up a hill then cark it. This is also when SAAS are likely to have a longer response time, due to the fact that you might be up the boon docks but also they dont auto dispatch to rural fires.

However, it would be more beneficial to the community/publis being on the urban response appliance, for road crash, structure fires, special service calls, etc. In this case though we are more likely to have a faster response from saas or even have them on scene to begin with.

So really depends on the reasoning behind purchase... I'd lean towards putting it on the truck for the firies protection though.

i think this could be classed as a 1 in 300 event? mt barker > default  :-o

Probably more likely a mix up in communications...

i would say need repair/service but unless the client/occupents want to PAY for the service work then they will be nothing done about it!!

How many of the alarms you attend are activated due to simulated fire condition? If that triggers the alarm, there is nothing wrong with that...

Agreed, too many people label everything as a false alarm and blame the system...

SA Firefighter General / Re: smoke alarms
« on: December 02, 2008, 02:19:48 PM »
whats wrong with one pump going to a 'bell ringing' every now and then?

I see no problem with neighbours calling in smoke detectors activating, im sure comcen can question the caller a little bit, ie ask them to knock on the door, look through windows...

Id rather be on the road when the job is still manageable, than going to another carpark, cos the fire was finally visible.

Country Fire Service / Re: Burnside Responding into East Torrens Group
« on: November 22, 2008, 03:43:34 PM »
Don't burnside respond into east torrens quite often?

Burnside brigade is geographically more aligned with East Torrens group than Lofty group, in fact they really dont have much common ground with Lofty group, do they?

But you cant have brigades responding into other groups areas.... even if there closer, more appropriate, etc..

What are you? Dumb or sumfink????:-D

Im guessing its the pre determined response per the Rally's fire & rescue guide.

Roads closed and acess only from one end.

Slow news day???

An air crash is something i would consider a fairly major incident. Especially considering one person was trapped for a reasonable length of time and now has critical injuries....

If CFS respond to a job in MFS area, why doesnt it show on there?

Because its not in CFS area.........

CFS website, displaying "CFS area" fire calls.

I believe there was a road crash dispatched in riverland area at a similar time... perhaps the concept of two seperate incidents in the country at the same time was too much for them.

100% right Matt, im fed up with stupid warnings...

As you said, anyone who cant remember that trees may drop limbs in the heat, or after a fire, probly deserves one on there head, or just shouldnt be on the fireground...

Same as all these warning re; slippery hills? bees? etc... waste of time.

Some warnings are stupid sounding if they dont stress you (eg) steep terrain, struth any thing flatter than a cliff up my way has a bowling green on it, so these so called gentle rolling hills that generate red flags make me smile, But things like bees can be life threatening if you have anafelactive reactions, so they may sound ridiclous to some but life threatening to others, it's all about perspective!

I know what ya mean mate, but does that mean i should issue a red flag warning at every job i go to, just because its spring & summer and the bees might be out? I understand all about allergies [being allergic to bees myself] but even i think its stupid.

My main point was, that some OICs just take delight in hearing there own voice...
