Im still trying to work out what the SES does... ??

ok.. im a member of the cfs but this si my understanding, im sure chatty or B2 can add to this:

the ses does:

storm damage (trees, flooding, roofs flapping)
landsearch
vertical rescue
confined space rescue (in places)
vehicle accident rescue
urban search and rescue
structural stailisation jobs (im sure theres a better name for that)
marine rescue (in places)
lighting at crime scenes
shelter at crime scens etc..
assist in evacuating people during floods, fires, etc..
assist other services (SAAS with patient lifts, etc..)
animal rescues

etc etc etc...

at the end of the day im sure they do a hell of a lot more jobs than us (in relation to the number of stations they have), but sure.. they do differant stuff to us, it is equally as important for them to exist as it is for us too..

Country Fire Service / Re: RCR Resource Directory
« on: October 09, 2005, 03:27:48 PM »
just for a second... im a member of the public, i witness a motor vehicle accident... my first thought "OMG they need an ambulance."
i ring triple 0 and ask for ambulance service, and they turn there guys out... it is then up to the ambulance comm cen to advise sapol and sacfs/samfs of the incident.. very rarely inside urban areas do the fire/rescue authorities get told about mva's until sapol or saas have arrived and deemed a response necessary...

this shouldnt happen but unfortunately it does.

i quite often drive on my way to work or wherever and notice a car smashed up on the side of the road... and think, "wtf??? why didnt we get responded to that." i have even driven past an accident that sapol where in attendance at, in our area.. stopped, identified myself to the officer on scene and asked why fire/rescue hadnt been responded, and he simply stated that they didnt need/want us. i looked at the car and could see liquid leaking from under it, so what did i do? i rang triple 0 asked for fire, and reported the MVA stating there was noone trapped but "something" leaking from under the car. easy fixed, and perfectly fine thing to do.

murray bridge SES is actually the RCR response to all MVAs in and around murray bridge, MFS in murray bridge are not a rescue resource as per the directory (look it up youll be amazed at how many retained MFS either arent rcr resources at all or are dual-response)

does anyone else get the perception from this thread of;

"mines bigger than yours!!!" "no mines bigger.." "no mine is..." "no mine."

All Equipment discussion / Re: Red or White

mmmm...

well what that post was actually about junior was the colour of trucks and CFS vollies that just absoloutely WANNABE mfs... why else would they want red trucks??

i have a real fulltime job. and i also respond with a busy urban brigade. that has white trucks. lets stay differant, there is no need to "conform" to public ideals

besides; anyone that has been to a decent smoky fire, can quite plainly see that our trucks show up much better through smoke, or just purely in the dark,  than red ones.

and yes, this is at jobs where a red one is sitting next to a white one.

our group officer did recieve honourariums.. and absoloutley none of the firefighters in the group knew...

can you imagine how absoloutely p**sed we were???

not only did they get group cars, which were used for whatever they felt like doing, driving to the shops, taking kids to school, driving to work (for another fire service) and sitting in the car park all day, with free fuel cards, compliments of CFS... but they also had mobile phone bills paid (50% i think)and a few other benefits...

ggrrrrr... not happy.
