SA Firefighter General / Re: Soil dryness/dingos dongers/relevance?

100% right Matt, im fed up with stupid warnings...

As you said, anyone who cant remember that trees may drop limbs in the heat, or after a fire, probly deserves one on there head, or just shouldnt be on the fireground...

Same as all these warning re; slippery hills? bees? etc... waste of time.

Also when all your brigade positions(anything with a title) are hotly contested at the AGM, but your positions okay coz your new bestest buddies, well for the last two months anyway, will vote you in even though you dont know JACKXXXX!

Hmmm why does that seem so familiar...

All Equipment discussion / Re: Auto vs Manual Transmissions
« on: November 05, 2008, 01:25:14 PM »
Have push started our trucks out the doors many a time, due to some electrical probs we had. I  think the best effort by our crew thiough which included myself, was when we parked the truck nosed up to a stobie, had left it running, turned her off for about 1 minute with only radio running... went to turn her back on and wrrrrrrr.... Crew of four had to push start her backwards [three if you consider the driver was in the seat], was interesting....

But back on subject, i drove a brand new auto isuzu the other day, this thing was auto with a tiptronic shifter on it. I presume this is what CFS are getting? Which would make them just passable for 4wd-ing... This thing went like a shower of scheiße.

Aaaah... well then its a load of crap.

Why dont they just use ozi and the SOPs to response appropriately. SOCC managed somehow...

Country Fire Service / Re: FDI's
« on: October 27, 2008, 08:23:17 AM »
Bill..... FDIs are a number representing a calculation of temp., wind speed, rh, etc. Back to firefighting school for ya mate.

FDIs of 50+ are automatically fire bans, however as i stated before, FDIs mean nothing until there is 100% curing, which may have influenced this.

Also let us remember, that forestry FDIs also have little bearing in deciding on bans.

Country Fire Service / Re: Alerts
« on: October 27, 2008, 06:54:52 AM »
ALERTS is a waste of time in my opinion.. All calls would be better off directed straight to triple zero.

Local knowledge is nice, but not when it completely sacrifices any proffesionalism in the call... Members logging in and answering "hello?" or "bob's phone", locals logging in and just starting blabbing on, logging in in noisy areas, talking over everyone, talking just for the sake of talking....

Very confusing situation for the caller, who is probably already under enough stress, and doesnt need to wonder if there call is actually getting through properly.

We where talking about FDI's last night whle washing fire trucks and we all agree that FDI'S is only part of the maths used to place a fire ban with in any part of the state....

Please explain mate... FDIs are the deciding factor, however special events/current incidents may effect it slightly.

How abotu we just put the entire state in a TFB until some time next year... would that suit everyone?

Honestly people... its the BOM, they dont get the weatehr right half the time and you expecvt them to predict the FDIs accurately every day? FDIs dont mean much anything anyway until the curing is identified as being 100%.

- drink & eat properly during the day, otherwise youll have nothing when it comes time to work

- check your gear regularly

- never go to an upgraded fire [or any hopefully] without as many bodies as the truck can take [oer seatbelts], you'll need them

- if your not fit too, dont answer the page... you'll only endanger the your mates

When it could be done by 4 brigades. or with the ones that aren't in lofty group but are closer.

EDIT: put in the correct language

Since we obviously decided to talk about specific examples... id love to know which brigades are closer to wilpena tce, aldgate, than aldgate, stirling & bridgewater who attended...

65
Nah they have it nailed, 15th seems to be the date

Would lvoe to know where this info has come from?
As i would have expected to hear/read this somewhere considering my employer... and yet i havent....

66
Just some over excited person who enjoys sending out pager messages i should think.

No dates have been formally released, and if you look at the CFS site, they are just showing the standard dates, ie; 1st December for MLR.

The rescue brigade in my group have a Fork lift with several attachments as well as props eg: water barriers, poles, powerline, crates and a mock stobie. Theres an abundance of scenarios that can be created.

 :-o Nice!!!

Bills got it, i can think of a few firies i wouldnt ming putting in a hydraulic press.... hmmmmm

By the way, why bother letting the rescue officer know what the go is? Surely the idea should be to keep everyone in the dark until arrival as per a real incident. Just a vague pager message ;)

Curious as to which brigade?

As the only ones anywhere near you are Eden Hills or Willunga? Which is quite a distance?

[Not having an individual go at MVale [or at least meaning to] i just think its crap is all]

Good for your brigade getting them, but sorry, id love to know how this buullshit happens when there is not even a HAZMAT resource in your group or surrounding area for them to respond on, except for MFS, who should be using there own equipment....

And yet there is no money for training for brigades who actually need it...

We wear to everything except rural and hazmat

You might want to check that Jeff, I was at the meeting where it was explained by the Group Officer and the rules are no rural fires and not to wear it at a Hazmat if you are going to be wearing an encapsulated suit.

You would wear it to a Hazmat initially as it the only thing we have that gives you complete level 3 protection, however if you are going to wear a suit then it comes off.

Wouldnt have thought it would be a problem in Mawson group full stop as there are no HAZMAT brigades?

i suppose they could but then who is covering rescue in salisburys area, only so many 9s on the run ;)

put one in the middle with pumps either side, RIG will beat them to the scene, and the rescue will only be slightly behind them.

Fair call Zippy - but as I said it's the current despatch system. And how does the "system" know it's an appropriate resource!

In theory callsigns, ie 19, 00, 20, 29, 42, 28 etc...

maybe time to introduce one for CFS brigades with storm damage stowage, or just add 20 to them as well...
