Might be a fire ban day, but wont take them long to drop everything and run if they get a job.

If anything probaly be a quicker response as the truck is already crewed

What is the standard issue of BA to BA brigades with the new 34? 2 or 4 sets?

Country Fire Service / Re: Fitness Standards
« on: March 05, 2007, 06:14:54 PM »
I dont generally agree with a minimum standard but what i would like to see is the CFS introduce a recommended fitness guide for firies.  If the vollie still chooses not to keep fit then the OIC needs to be very careful where they send there unfit firies.  Having said that everyone should know there limits.

Would be nice to see a discount for vollies to attend a gym but doesnt really benefit many as alot of places dont have one.

try up to 10 mins camo........

Few? 10? close enough but really what would the average be?  Most would be at the lower end of the scale - 5mins tops.

Country Fire Service / Re: voting rights
« on: March 05, 2007, 04:55:16 PM »
Having people that never turn up vote is like asking a stranger off the street to vote for the captain of your brigade.

Having said that Footy lets wait until after the next election to say something as we might need the extra votes  :-D

Just kidding

I thought 1000 degrees equates to 60 degrees in the cab.  Your probaly only going to be subjected to this heat for a few minutes i guess.

The water is kept in that big box thingie on the back of the truck thingie, which is goes through the pump thingie into the big hose thingie's that squirt the water on the fire thingie.

Dumbed down enough you think?

Its all to do with the thingie  :-D

Just where is this money meant to come from?

It would seem to me that both the MFS & CFS budgets are stretched.  Unless you propose to raise the ESL Minister?

Country Fire Service / GO's & DGO's attending incidents
« on: March 02, 2007, 05:02:04 PM »
Gday,

At what stage do you think a GO or DGO should attend an incident?

Every call? Any multiple brigade response? 2nd Alarm +?

There is a certain group (and probaly not the only one) where it seems a GO OR DGO attends every single incident from a fixed alarm to a minor grass fire or minor vehicle accident.

Personally i believe they arent needed until the incident is at a stage where a single captain can no longer manage e.g. mulitple brigades at more then just a small grass fire.  If a GO OR DGO attends every incident then the Brigade officers become no more then a babysitter.

What are peoples thoughts?

have found that the hand mike's will not transmit as good as PTT button also have had lots of feed back when using the mike's and in a few cases have been unable to understand people talking when they use the hand mike's....

Same as the GRN radio you need to make sure there noise reduction opening isnt covered.  Pretty sure its at the back at the top of the hand mike.  I have noticed it quite often becomes covered by the clip.  Take a look and see if that isnt the problem.

How can being a volunteer in any or numerous services be classified as selfish?

Yeah sure occasionaly they will clash but who gives a brass razoo?  As a volunteer no one ever expects you to attend 100% of the time and nor should you....There is more to life then living at a fire station.

Footy was giving a basic example and regardless of your views there is no need for your personal attack. I got the idea and im sure alot of others did too.

Also you say the fire service is not a game?  well i guess not but if you take life too serious you wont make it out alive.  :-D

I dont wanna cause a stir here or offend the media crew as they do an excellent job but....

Is it time we outsourced the magazine or some arrangement where 1 or 2 staff do just the magazine and nothing else?

Just throwing it out there.  What do people think?

Dont go getting all technical on me...im only a simple country boy  :-D

If MFS respond as well then i guess the requirements are met.  But i wonder if this is just a coincidence they were responded or a planned thing?  And if it was planned then why didnt they show up when they were paged?

Well the last two times the MFS have been paged as well but the last time they didnt show up.  Why im not sure..

Although the next closest brigade is Wandilo i think but hey lets not get into politics.  Closest but not neccesarily the quickest.

Would be good to get paged at the same time as well instead of 7 mins later to a fixed alarm next door to the station.  but thats another issue.

Figure this then.

Our local Primary School (very small) is a one truck response with a fixed alarm (monitored via security company).

It is an old weatherboard school with gas bottles everywhere with very little water pressure from the mains.

GO FIGURE!
