its a pity the ESL was cut back in the first place.  All services maybe properly funded by now if it was at the same level it was introduced at.

This stupid penny pinching we have to do to get by is just pathetic for a service that saves the state billions of dollars of damage each year and saves alot of lives.

What everyone doesnt seem to understand is the fact that most employers dont care about the money.  Its the fact they cant stand to be without an employee for whatever period.

« on: February 21, 2007, 06:14:43 PM »
There are plenty of new appliances coming just a question of who gets them, wait and see.
There are 10 Mills Tui Built 34P's due out sometime :|

I wont say no to one.  But havent the CFS had trouble with Mills Tui trucks before?

Although didnt the last batch of SEM 34P's have a few problems?

Think it was a No carrier Alarm at Boandik Lodge (local nursing home).  Dont think they even dragged the truck out the door.

Country Fire Service / Re: Should CFS be Paid For COQ?
« on: February 21, 2007, 01:32:02 PM »
Either way Mike the vollies shouldnt be getting the money.

Any expense that maybe incurred while at MFS (COQ or Incident) should and probaly is covered by MFS.  And vise versa.

Vollies getting paid for there services is just crap.  If you cant justify your time to sit in an MFS station doing COQ then dont go.  But if you cant justify it then when can you?  why is it different in MFS area then our own?  Your still protecting your community or someone elses which what the CFS is about.

Country Fire Service / Re: Hydrants
« on: February 21, 2007, 01:24:22 PM »
SA water is the go,and we should not be flushing hydrants while we have water restrictions that came out with the new level 3 from CFS restrictions last month.

Drought or no drought, i dont wanna be filling up our truck without flushing the hydrant first.  All it takes is for a stone to get into the pump and all hell can break loose.

What you probaly seen athol is the crews that operate the fire kings are also the pruning crew.

so they keep the trucks nearby for a quick response.

Probaly 75% of structure fires are free venting before a CFS appliance arrives anyway.

Other Government Agencies / Re: Summer Crew Jobs

Im not aware of any pockets of land owned by SA Water that would require fire cover in the South East.

FSA used to employ casuals but some bright spark higher up decided they had enough staff to cover it and didnt require the casuals.  Just another Government department trying to save dough.

Cant say it has affected them though...well not from what i have seen on the fireground anyway.

Surely something growing to be sold would be insured if not then they're idgits.

Pretty sure they self insure.

Im referring to Forestry SA crews.  They will chase anything in the forest.  CFS's role is usualy wait until it comes out.

Most forest blocks are 1 square kilometre so unless it dead in the centre usually its less then 500m of hose.

I'm not surprised they didn't respond to an exercise at 3:30am in the morning

Exercise Daybreak

They have done them  before....all night exercises.  although its at an odd hour of the day its probaly the best time to get everyone together.

i remember the strath group doing one about 15 year ago when my old man was with Milang.  Apparently a lot of fun.
