Country Fire Service / auxiliary members
« on: June 26, 2007, 08:21:30 PM »
How many brigade's have a auxiliary brigade and what do these members do?

Naracoorte brigade auxiliary is there to provide catering to the brigade and the group at call outs during the year. They also do some of the catering at the region five training centre and this year they took on a support role to the apsley CFA group with catering as part of our on going support of crossborder sharing. The auxiliary is mainly made up of female members but they do accept males and anyone who is willing to help. The auxiliary can be called out at anytime day or night and they have access to local foodstores 24/7.

I am just after some feed back on what other brigade auxiliary's do and if your brigade does not have an auxiliary have you looked at setting one up as this is another way that community minded people can help.

At a meeting that the VFBA had here not so long ago and Euan was here he was talking about having a reserve list of city people or those that lived in MFS area who wanted to help CFS.These people would be like the army reserve and would do the training but be located in Adelaide and would come out to large jobs and help...Sounds good idea to me what you all think?

SA Firefighter General / 003 anf FIP keys
« on: February 03, 2007, 06:31:38 AM »
How many brigade appliances have these keys?? recently one of my clients had a fire alarm, local brigade arrived and they did not have keys so they had to force and break the door of the fire panel. When I spoke to the group officer about it he said he had never heard of these keys and that none of their appliances had any such key to open the panels or padlocks at any site's........Mind you this group as around 10 fire alarms in their area to look after.

Country Fire Service / IMT
« on: December 10, 2006, 05:25:57 AM »
Nice to see thtat at last H/Q is calling members who have done the AIIMS course to come and help at fire's around the state,I along with one of our DGO"S was called the other night to go to region 3 to the riverland. But I could not go as we are short of crews here at the moment but I did say I would go any other time... So what do people think of our current IMT set up and how it works,I really like how when there is say 4 or 5 brigades at a job with in region 1 that they page for IMT very early and it does work well...

SA Firefighter General / THE BIG DRY
« on: November 11, 2006, 08:44:06 AM »
This week as part of my work job, I spent time up along the mallee and was talking to a number of CFS members who are farmers and I really have to say that those people are feelng it hard. One guy was telling me that he will have to move if there is no rain soon and another who runs a town business that has around 10 guys employed in it is facing closing due to the big dry. The sad part is that if these people do leave and close their business then the local brigade will suffer so much so that one brigade will lose 5 members as there will be no work for them in the area and so off to the city they will go. The future does not look good for our rural members and I was just woundering what if any support CFS has for these members???  In this day and age where we are more busy do we ever talk to members other than at the fire station or down the street and just find out how hard life is really going on the land.

The real CFS is our rural members thats not to say that cfs urban brigades are not part of this group but is there anything we can do to help these members who would not ask for help but rather walk away from the land..... and the community.
