That sounds a bit unusual, where was this job exactly?

mmm....interesting, hopefully the battery problem will be fixed with the new VE's having a second battery put in and hopefully SAMFS won't have this problem due to trucks having 2 or more batteries and the appliances are either plugged in to mains or running.

I heard a rumour that EMA CFS brigades will get them in their front running appliance too, can you confirm this Rusty?

Umm yeah, i must say i agree with everyone except Tone 7 or Linc24p or whoever you are...

Over the years i have been to roughly 5 of these jobs, all have been a priority 2 response and none we have walked away thinking it was a waist of time.

The last one i went to was a person with a respiritory desease and due to being unable to leave the house and hardly able to walk called us.

The one before that was an elderly lady at 2am who didn't know what the beeps meant so called the fire brigade who told her it was a flat battery and she would need to change it, unfortunatley her husband was bed ridden and hooked up to a life support machine and she would have probably killed herself if she had have attemted it herself so Comms sent us out which is fair enough.

The other thing is 99% of people think they have a paid fire service in their town that are waiting to do this sort of thing and are very appologetic when learning otherwise.

Also if you are from Pt lincoln then PumpRescue has been to alot more jobs than you ever could in Pt lincoln and could also make your apparent problem with heirachy alot worse if you dont watch the way you talk to people.

Don't know all that much about it but i think it has alot to do with the new decoders in stations.

E.G if a page is sent to our brigade with CFSRES the pagers just go off and not much else happens........ however if a page is sent with URGRES (i thought it was actually URGMSG but could be wrong) then the siren sounds.

SAMFS / Re: Pumper Tankers

I don't think they would be on a 4x4, i think they were looking at the Isuzu 1400 the same as lofty tanker so i don't know what they would be called, probably pumper tanker would be easiest and most descriptive.

When on wail and manuel is pressed you get yelp, when on yelp and manuel is pressed you get HyperYelp and when on Hi-lo and manuel is pressed you get HyperLow.

Also when siren is in standby mode and manuel is pressed you get wail that goes to the highest pitch and stays there till you take your finger off (the same as all manuel buttons on appliances now).

Burnside CFS have been trained by a private company in confined space rescue and atmospheric monitoring and have a large array of specialised equipment on both the hazmat appliance and pumper including standard Hazmat, RCR, B.A equipment as well as atmospheric monitoring equipment, specialist confined space B.A gear and other lowering/lifting gear and even just purchased an electric PPV for venting confined spaces.

MFS could do with some pumper tankers, maybe 3 or 4 at like STN 43, 42, 35, 32 and maybe even 22 or 44.

CFS were looking into them, basically a 34p but on dual rear axle and 6000L of water. Several areas could use these. I don't know what ever happened to the idea.

Yes i have trained several MFS firies on a CFS appliance.

They have to do it every year the same as us.

Can be done but CFS won't be doing it, all you need to do is split the GRN speaker cable into the siren box and then when you arrive flick the siren to the radio position and the GRN will go through your siren speaker so that everyone around the truck can hear it.

Scania have recently upgraded the cab to allow for this with fold down steps that fold down as the door is opened, this should make things easier.

As far as i am concerned this whole thing has been blown out the water and a few people need their butts kicked and as said i think this is in another section.

Oops i think we replied at the same time.

CFS have to have a PA so it will be on there, the volume is set at maximum as with the last lot of 34's and 34p's. Also the PA can be used at any time and will override the siren tone.

Correct 2090, the siren has an electronic airhorn and P.A.

The appliances will also have LED mini bars to allow for the height restrants.

On older appliances with 2 speakers mix is a bit softer coz they put one tone through each speaker.
On newer trucks with 1 speaker mix is as loud as the other tones .

As of this year no new CFS appliances will have mix as it is not a recognised siren tone, they will all have the code 3 siren in the attached link.

For info MFS pay $380,000 for a scania pumper unstowed and CFS pay around $300,000 for a type 2 unstowed so it's not really that much difference when you look at what you get for your money, also i would like to see which is doing better in 20 years time a plastic bottom of the range type 2 or an aluminium top of the range pumper.

All Equipment discussion / Re: BA Seats in pumpers
« on: October 16, 2006, 12:26:00 PM »
The biggest issue is the current trucks won't fit BA seats in because they are too big and your knees would be up against the drivers seat (except for the dennis of course).

The next issue is that we would have to get the lightweight cylinders as used at STC for compartment so as you weren't jumping out the truck with so much weight on your back.

Trucks should be the same but i can understand why cars are different, because they are from fleet SA and they get swapped over so often and it depends on what is the best deal fleet SA get that year.

Automatic's are generally only good on pumpers with high pressure pumps. manual types are better on grass fire trucks where you need to conserve water.

I have seen the video, i think every time the airport tenders leave the airport they screw up the tyres because they are such a soft compound.

Hahahahahahahaha, aparently the pump on stirling pumper was a special, it was supposed to be 3 stage, CFS must have got a free stubby holder with the one they ended up getting.

Mmm i would have just thought in this day and age we would consault each other and get everything the same, bit like BA between MFS and CFS, we should be able to use each others gear and not need adaptors.
Although i have heard that SA is looking to go to storz fittings to match AFAC standards and eastern states.

We already have a logo like SAMFS its just that some idiot decided to also use a second logo which makes us look like a taxi service.
