Fire Fighter Training / Re: Vertical Rescue training

ok i am going to play too

Glad you mentioned Stabfast - I was trained on them when I was in Barmera, but when I was transfered to Berri we were not allowed to have them (they were sitting in a container in our yard) until we (whole team) did the training course & it was signed off! (Very frustrating at the time).

there are many courses and many volunteers although in a perfect world it would be nice to see this system work but if we waited for everyone to be trained to the same standard i don't think many brigades could respond. This may be just because some people can;t come to simple weekly training all the time for completely normal reasons. And it is not just complex rescue ideas that i am referring to as much as where stuff is on a truck. I know it sounds stupid but it seems to be true.

Bundy
It would be a perfect world if CFS staff were producing risk assessments and training packages for every gadget that came out but that, as i would assume you agree, is impossible. So brigades like Bridgewater who have the will to make this money should fully be able to use that to further the service and full points to them for having the guts and time to do most of it properly.
Of course maybe if it was easier for vollies to be a part of developing new procedures etc or there was more staff this wouldn't be an issue.

this thread has some good stuff but any posts that purely bag out the SES will be removed. this isn't the point of this site

The only issue that my solution is that someone does need to provide accesable information to the public about fires

No, Make it tell people that it is THEIR job to be aware of the Fire danger on any given day in THEIR area. WE aren't baby sitters and we should have no responsibility to people who don;t prepare themselves.

Emergency Vehicles / Re: New Rescue van for CFS
« on: August 08, 2009, 08:06:50 PM »
Sorry dont like it, where is the crew protection on those long trips to a RCR or to a hazmat job ??? Did CFS just go out and buy these with out any consultataion from its members who have to use them?? Sorry CFS but it wont work in the country where a RCR or Hazmat briagde has to drive for a hour or more just to get to a job.....

There are some photos on OZFIRE of the van......

What do you mean by crew protection?

Well i have attended the roadshow twice now and found it very good and think that SACAD will be absolutely brilliant for the state. What i am worried about is Certain opinions in the CFS that can;t adapt to this change because they like the current way of doing things.

There has been much comment about what the VA isn;t doing so i am asking what they should do and how.

This thread is not to bag them . ANY such posts will be removed or edited.

Country Fire Service / Re: Not Happy?

Jaff, I agree that volunteers need to look beyond their own little patch but I do want to know how united/ state wide some things need to be?
I have hears some great plans of standardising a whole heap of stuff in Pt Linclon but strongly disagree with that those ideas for my applications in R1.

Even though we all fight fires, the differences in both risks and attitudes about going about those risks changes all over the state. For example at a recent meeting it was mentioned that in the rural areas along the riverland 20 min for a truck to arrive was acceptable. It is still a response. But in the urban fringe it is viewed as highly unacceptable some brigade like to maintain  <4 minute. A state wide plan doesn't work. We still need to recognise that there are differences that must be accommodated.

SASES / Re: Prosecution

very sad and unfortunately will stress the vollies of that unit even more.

However the fact that a service can be prosecuted on a whole is probably a good thing, (epically in this work cover situation) as it will greatly  increase the organizations responsibility to provide a "safe working environment".

edit changed a word

Country Fire Service / Recruitment being prevented by BFF1 length
« on: May 31, 2009, 11:41:55 PM »
There has been alot of discussion recently saying the length of BFF1 is preventing members from joining.
Do you think this is true if so why or why not?
And does anyone expect our numbers to noticeably increase if we altered BFF1 to a different format?

We are running low, partly our own fault and partly because of new members.

Does anyone expect that a station with 5 trucks could ever crew them all?

I agree with Darren that the top says the isn't a problem this seems a bit odd.

Still is it not reasonable to review the SFECs and increase what stowage CFS will supply?

Or can we come up with a better system of Discriminating between brigades who need more of this equipment than others?

Do you really think a brigade that does <10 calls a year will start doing more training if we give them a small mansion to use? are you sure it isn;t a needs based training schedule?

Lets just watch this review and see what happens.

I do wonder how it costs onyl 5.6 mill to run the normal operational needs of a brigade out of a budget of over 50mil.
