The Country Fire Service is slowly dying.

MFS manage call, receive, dispatch so if there is a boundary call who's side of the road do you think the job will be!

Who ever's gazetted area it is.

Whilst CFS management in town do not have the ability to run the CFS as a business and look at growth by changing the service model provided to the community and slowly hand over to the MFS and let the UFU boss around both services watch the CFS slowly die!

Sure the CFS doesn't need to exist in the future but who is going to cover the huge areas of the state that don't justify a 24/7 crew?

Never had it, tried to get it once and got shot down....

Traditionally CFS vollies have had a pretty poor attendance at thess sort of things so I would think 100 is a pretty good number to start with.

And CFS stations are also Cheep  :-D

And where in the country? R5 R4 R6 ????

Salisbury was chosen as it can hold a large amount of people not so much because it has a certain type of volunteer. However ti is a good opportunity to hear from some experienced people who have been in other types of fire service model. It is a start and at least we can make an opinion before the government forces theirs upon us eg MFS comcen ...,

Also we all know $$$ seem to be being ripped out of SAFECOM and that was the last fire service model the Government tried  :?

Yes I was disappointed to see it stopped by some organisations especially after all the good work many people have put into getting this into law.

I was also amused at seeing the RAA not support this, but I guess I’ll just add that the many things I don’t understand about the RAA….

I think I read it only has one side line, not two.....?  If so, I think that is a mistake.

Why are we so hooked on 2 live reels ?  it has the dead reel. If we can just get over always having a charged line with you i think loosing a sideline may be a good thing.

Matt - I guess i am in a lucky brigade so we haven;t been told that we can;t get anything the issue is that there is very little  enthusiasm for brigades to contribute to help or pay to try and speed up things like new trucks and building stations etc. This transfers down into equipment

and from what i hear there is something in the order of $5 mil in brigade accounts across the state ....

For those of you who mention the Process for getting gear tc, What is this its eems to change depending on who you talk to...

I still don't get it. I can understand that adding a socket set to your tool roll is a reasonable thing to improve your function but

What do you think of developing a system that enables brigades to buy more substantial things for themselves more in a less restricted fashion? some examples may include BA sets, another bay on a station

Are you serious?

I realise that these are examples but BA sets? I mean .... really?
Do you guys have to buy BA sets?

We don't have to supply any of this stuff but like almost every firs service in the world we would like to upgrade and get new equipment perhaps a bit more frequently. The issue is that many brigades have money but essentially aren't allowed to spend it.

So sticking with the CFS example if they pick a new BA set and put out a upgrade timeline but allow brigades to get it sooner if they pay we can use some of this coin that often only pays for end of year drinks.. This has issues of course but is an idea.

Mr teddy What paperwork? which form ? where do i get it?

I have been thinking that across the CFS there is alot of money that is in brigade accounts that doesn't do much other than collect interest. I may be wrong but my observations in CFS have discovered that there isn't much in the way of larger things that brigades are allowed to spend their money on.(we buy printers, t shirts perhaps etc)

What do you think of developing a system that enables brigades to buy more substantial things for themselves more in a less restricted fashion? some examples may include BA sets, another bay on a station.

is this fair? would it be good to free up this money?

I wouldn't worry about the Group Officer dynasties, some brigades have their own dynasties, and don't respect the members they have.

Speaking of our so called union well there is a few changes a comin.......

I am all ears?

We don't notice the dead trees bittenyakka as the ones they are referring too most likely are in amongst the thick scrub and dense vegetation

What i meant to say is every year some trees are dead and this year it doesn't seem much different to other years.

I had not really noticed any more or less dead treas than in past years. And from my experience they both burn pretty well in a good fire.

CFSVA is a waste of time bunch of old out of touch blokes banging on only about rural fires.
What changes for the better have they lead the way in recently and as our so called union or association they should be chasing us for information or problems not the other way round.

Firstly they aren't much older than the GO's at our RVMC's soooo you're wrong, And pretty much hall of them have been or are GO's. I am sure some GO's are deserving of much more blame than the CFSVA ever is.

And they are after your problems and have a branch structure to discuss and bring them to the top.

I think using the stats could be a very good way to tweak the resources around the edge an support major changes. Of course the risk that the brigade covers has to always be considered.

The cynical side of me assumes that the person reading the stats will not really understand them  and make dumb decisions.

Well it was moved to SAFECOM but that isn't perfect of course. I do know it is an issue of concern in higher up places at the moment
