Mod Note: removed reference to original post

For someone who makes it so clear on who they are, I would watch the level at which you publically slander other people.

I never said who I was talking about, I didn't even mention what brigade or group they where from.  I bet if the CFS sent some one around every brigade in the state there would be a number of members who would fit into the '6%" catergory who don't attend training and who's compedidence is somewhat lacking
I agree with KDOO_BTO, there are members on here who shoot their mouth off on a regular basis who go quiet as soon as training at brigade level is mentioned. As for slander I never saw any names or places mentioned but if the hat fits WEAR IT. I would be very surprised if every group in the state did not have at least 1 of these types of people in them

I think you wil find that we have alreday had some robert i the wee small hours and looks like more brewing....

Sitting back guzzling rum at about 0200 hrs this morning in the doo there was a fair bit of light work to the south east of town.  I suspect that could of been the cause of the fire on the border this morning.  All quiet now I say its time to get some more rum and worry about it when it happens

I just finished listening to the Forestry SA weather forecast for tomorrow and was shocked to hear what the FDI's for Coonawarra and Mount Gambier are going to be and if thats not bad then the temps in high 40's makes it alot more concerning

29/01/2009

Coonawarra
Temp: 45
FDI: 101

Mount Gambier
Temp: 44
FDI: 100
I wish summer would hurry up and get here. Its too filtered cold.

How many jobs did the Doo have last year? :-D

Without getting too keen and running down to the station,I'd guess they had about 15.5 jobs last year :-D and responded with an average of 3.5 crew each time :-o.

I noticed the bomber stationed at Millicent Airport on my way home early this arvo after knocking off work due to the heat  :-)

What heat we haven't had a decent hot day this season yet

I'm sure we've all sat around on a 39deg day thats not a FB declared day because only one of the sites in that zone are at 50 or over (I'm pretty sure 2 locations are needed to be over 50 in the FB area for it to be declared) - and then had members of the public asking us why - its damm hard to justify to them (and myself) why there is less of a fire risk on a day like that.

The lower SE fire ban district must be different because it only takes one location to go over for a fire ban to be put on.  We also work on FFDI in the LSE not Grassland. Which means early in the season we end up with filtered fireban days because the Naracoorte readings go over and Mt Gambier and Port Mac are still wearing over coats to keep warm. Although there are few forests up at Naracoorte.

The Wattle Range District Bushfire Prevention Committee have made several recommendations to the brass about how to cure these early firebans that turn out to be real Fizzers and nothing happens.
Some of the recommendations have been-

1  Move the boundry between upper and lower SE from the northern boundry of the Naracoorte district council to the Southern boundry between Naracoorte and Wattle Range.
or
2  Work on Grassland FDI's until the grass is 100% cured and then change to Forest FDI.
or
3  Go back to the old system where 2 weather locations must go over to trigger a Total Fire Ban.

Just some fuel for thought. All comments and views welcomed

Filtered panic merchants. spread a semi load of petrol over a 10 acre paddock and it still would struggle to burn in the lower SE at the moment.

Just out of curiosity Bill from which years does Rex want EFS info from cause i know that the TAFE campus in Mount Gambier has a book about some of the big fires which occured between 1950's and 1980's stored in its library somewhere

Its probably Rex's first book

Fire Fighter Training / Re: CFS Courses
« on: October 11, 2008, 09:30:59 PM »
Thanks you said it for me littlejohn!

This is starting to get ridiculous, volunteers should have respect for one another, not spend their time bagging one another!

Yet some volunteers have bag me tattooed across their foreheads. You know who I'm talking about Kat and don't deny it

If the specialised Brigades who have the people willing to be trained are having to go without so that people in other Brigades can be trained 'just in case', or because they might be around and are kinda interested in the course, then there is no way that it should be allowed to occur.

On the other hand I know of Hazmat courses being cancelled because there where not enough numbers to run it and members from non Hazmat brigades where not allowed to nominate for the course.

i wouldn't start comparing call amounts when you can't win Robert :-D

As long as no one takes that as a challenge and decides to boost their brigade call out rate "accidently" of course.

Maybe its about time they started training all brigades even ones which only get maybe 5 or 10 calls a year as SAAS first responders so if the situation when SAAS assist comes up then the closest brigade could be called  :-)

Robert I am pretty certain SAAS first responders are required to do a skills maintenance package each year just like members of St John do, this means they are actually required to turn up to Brigade training sessions to get their skills signed off. When was the last time you attended brigade training????????? If you where a member of St John you would have been asked to hand your uniform in a long time ago for not completing your skills maintenance. If you don't beleive me why not turn up to training and ask your BTO I beleive he is still a member of St John. :-D

Emergency Vehicles / Re: Penola 34

Actually I do beleive we have more BA operators than Glencoe Ringer so maybe your sets could be put on KDOO34.  Junior could be captain of Kalangadoo Bravo Brigade and they could be allocated evacuation duties of the town. lol

Why bother! Just vote him in as Group Officer next elections instead, I'm sure Mike would like a break from the job.

filtered a lot more 34P's than 34's should be built then lol....more BA sets the Better in my eyes.

You know that some brigades have more sets than operators, and there are a WHOLE bunch that only have as many operators as sets...

Even Kalangadoo has more BA operators than BA sets. 6 operators and only 2 sets. That second unit for Kalangadoo might be required after all. Maybe even splitting the brigade so there will be Kalangadoo Alpha and Bravo Brigades LMGDFAO :-D

:-DOr a good looking trainer can keep you interested or at least awake for the whole course (I do remember paying particular attention for a whole module one time because the person taking it had the nicest butt out )

I bet it was BFF1 and it actually was the assessor not the trainer you where perving on. Probably the same as at the Drags too

Because if you don't tell them no you can spend an awful long time regretting it as some brigades have found out

As some region 5 brigades have found out and are still trying to deal with the aftermath. As those members are stopping new members joining

"Those who cannot do, teach!"?

And those that cannot teach, get into research...

I thought it was those you can't teach, teach teachers?
Those who can, Do, those who can't, teach, those who can't teach, teach teachers and those who can't teach teachers, write teachers books
