i know within our group a rescue resource will not take a stop if there are people still in the vehicles even if they are stated to be not trapped

Even buying a new cab-chassis would be cheaper then replacing the appliance with a new one.. summertown had theirs fixed after it rolled.

probably an on the ball officer requesting an upgrade of an incident, lost count of how many nil entrap accidents we have been called to that have required "cutting".
Could also be new information come in causing the change in job classification.

Whats makes it "their" appliance? I believe the logo on the door says CFS, not an individual brigade. Areas such as west coast it is always going to be a case of they have to bring in extra trucks, and change the crews on those trucks. If the crew who took it out of staging to return home did not check the truck, and note any issues on the green check out T card (gasp! yes, T-Cards actually have a purpose), then it is the Brigade's fault for not ensuring their personnel do the right thing at staging. I get quite tired of asking, as a SAM, for crews T cards when they come into staging. The amount of times I have been looked at like I am an alien from the planet HFYVOIFCJOBJOK asking to be taken to their leader is laughable.

Exactly its not THEIR appliance, but these appliances are allocated to a brigade. SOME brigades take absolute pride in their appliances and modify them and spend their hard earnt briagde funds on them, they then get sent to strike teams where SOME people have an absolute disregard for the trucks they are in because they dont belong to their brigade, granted things do go wrong and damage does occur accidentally but also people do intentionally damage vehicles because they have the DILLIGAF mentality..
Now if our appliance came back from a strike team having gotten intentional damage to it i would be peeved to say the least.

But to say that it belongs to CFS you dont have a choice so just sit with it is also the wrong attitude.. Some of us take pride in our equipment and treat it with respect and honestly if its the attitude of its OUR truck then so be it, i would rather that then its CFS' applliance who gives a toss.

And as far as Raven is concerned well done CFS needs more crews like yours out there :)

Damage in the heat of battle is apart of the deal, but damage from people who dont care is just wrong.

from what one of our members saw apparently some took joy in carving up others appliances.. sure they get superficial damage but seriously alot of it can be avoided with treating equipment with a little respect.

HAPPY VALLEY *INFO* HV 34P OFF LINE....US NOT TO BE USED CAPT:( - H/V STATION

And they wonder why some brigades are reluctant to let their appliances go on these strike teams, sure its a CFS truck and you dont really have a choice but really who would like to see something they take pride in come back from a job in the state some of these appliances are in.

YANKALILLA 34 IS BACK HOME BUT NEEDS TO GO TO THE TRUCK HOSPITAL. DO NOT DRIVE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES J.EDGE :FROM G.C.C 6:53:06 PM - CFS Yankalilla Info

Its a damn shame the way some people treat appliances at large fires, if its not theirs then its there to be damaged.
What happened to people treating other brigade appliances like it was their own???

There is more to ack. of the page though? Like a mesaage saying an appliance is mobile to the job? Its not hard to do and makes the people behind the desks pushing the buttons job far easier to do.

Seems like a mighty timewaster to try and chase up on the alerts (if anyone picks up) or try and chase up on the radio once again if anyone is monitoring 124?  All it takes is a blah blah mobile to incident blah and it can all be avoided!

Lack of comms from Middleton was actually the issue there.

My point exactly.

PTEL: Middleton QRV and southcoast SES on scene no further resources required. Regards DO lack of comms from A/F

Thats a bit uncalled for, no comms to AF regarding appliances mobile would be a good starting point there.

I remember a few years ago in October it was already browned off over most of the state with many large fires and lots of Fire Bans. Cant see it being much different from an average year at the moment.
And most if not all of the fire bans have been for the NWP and NEP districts which is once again normal for this year as the temp rises in those regions.

it is forestry remember they dont actually look outside or read weather reports before deciding whether they are going to burn or not.

NEW 34P APPLIANCE BEING DELIVERED NEXT MONDAY NIGHT AT 1900.CREW WILL BE REQUIRED FOR APPLIANCE FAMILIARISATION. STRATH CAPTAIN - CFS Strathalbyn Info

Good luck to Strath for having a very modern fleet but i would really like the people who allocate vehicles explain why some brigades can have 2 new 34P's when there are other brigades like ours that have a very tired 24P which is our frontline urban and RCR appliance and be told we have to have it until its 20-25 years old.

Seriously, anyone out there who can explain how this works?? one minute we are told our 24P is past the age limit for refurbishment but there are other 24P's of the same age going for refurbishment.

I believe the buttons have now been well and truly pushed and training is heading very fast in the direction of the Fleurieu SES units.

Improvisation is the mother of rescue and the guys and girls (from both services) did a fantastic job of overcoming the limitations put in place.

Big Al: Day time crew is always an issue, but Strath are not as bad off as you may think.

That is fantastic to hear Mike regarding strath crewing, good to see them heading in the right direction.

I think both major jobs were pulled off well, the one our brigade attended had a great outcome, and yes untrained people effected the rescue at the winery road job but they werent left with much option with the circumstances as another few minutes would have probably seen a almost fatal outcome.  Good job to all crews for the rescues and good to hear better training is now being rolled out.

From the sounds of it strath did a great job of getting to all the people of the other nights incident, and yes strath and south coast are both struggling at the moment.

I think its time for the training that Noarlunga has to become more available to other Units/Brigades out there, yes cost is obviously an issue but to be very honest it is pretty useless to have Noarlunga with all their training a long distance away when someone is in fast flowing water holding onto a branch for dear life and unable to wait for an extended period in the water and a throw bag is not an option causing more drastic measures to be taken by rescuers on scene to effect a rescue in a life threat situation.

Bit like having only one BA brigade per 200sq km area.

After a few swiftwater rescues on the south coast is it time for SES or CFS to look at setting up a swiftwater rescue team in the Area?  The risk in the Mundoo and Strathalbyn CFS group areas for this incident is quite considerable is it an oversight that it seems only swiftwater teams are setup in the metro areas??

To be honest i find it a bit poor that the closest team is Noarlunga SES some 50 mins drive (not including response time) away.

Its a pretty tough ask to tell rescuers on scence that they are not to enter the water under any circumstances when someone is literally hanging on for their life knowing that the rescue team is 30 plus minutes away.

What are peoples opinion?
