The Humour Zone / Random Fire Fighting Jokes

Volunteer Fire Truck
A fire started on some grasslands near a farm. The county fire department was called to put out the fire. The fire was more than thecounty fire department could handle. Someone suggested that a nearby volunteer bunch be called.

Despite some doubt that the volunteer outfitwould be of any assistance, the call was made. The volunteers arrived in a dilapidated old fire truck. They rumbledstraight towards the fire, drove right into the middle of the flames andstopped!

The firemen jumped off the truck and frantically started spraying water in all directions. Soon they had snuffed out the center of the fire, breaking the blaze into two easily-controlled parts. Watching all this, the farmer was so impressed with the volunteer firedepartment's work and was so grateful that his farm had been spared, that right there on the spot he presented the volunteers with a checkfor $1,000.

A local news reporter asked the volunteer fire captain what the department planned to do with the funds. "That ought to be obvious, " he responded, wiping ashes off his coat.

"The first thing we're gonna do is get the brakes fixed on our firetruck!"

SASES / Can SES not accept a tasking?

Bajdas, can SES crews not accept a tasking?
Looking at page no SES were responded, so does that mean they turned it down?
If so how does that work?

SA Firefighter General / Leaving School For calls
« on: June 06, 2007, 10:43:27 PM »
i always laugh when my pager goes off for that one, because it is my school, so i have to leave school, jump on a truck and then respond back to school.

ohh, and they never evacuate when the alarms go off, which is annoying

would have thought your education may be more important than CFS... do you leave school for any call?

If your interested there is a thread set up on peoples professions and how easy it is for people to attend calls from their jobs. I'm a primary school teacher, and I know that if there is enough staff to cover my class I can respond, my Principal figures that we are a part of the community so need to give something back when we can...
(plus I think he lives in my response area, lol  :-P)

SA Firefighter General / Professions

I was just wondering that with the Emergency Services covering such a broad part of society,
What does everyone do for a job?
And how flexible are your employers?
(this is obviously not aimed at those employed by services...)

I'm a Primary School teacher, and I'm ok to go to callouts as long as there is cover.
Obviously my duty of care is to the kids,
But the kids love the fact that i might go racing out for a call...

SA Firefighter General / Operation Seek
« on: May 23, 2007, 09:06:05 AM »
Hey Guys

For those of you in Mount Gambier, and who were involved with Operation Seek on Tuesday night, I would love to hear some feedback.  I have posted in this section because it was a operation involving many different agencies.

For those who aren't aware, Operation Seek was a multi agency training operation with MMFS CFS and SES, and Forestry SA involved (don't think there was any other...

Operation was co-ordinated by Blue and was done really well, I think it showed how agencies can and do work well together and also showed some areas where improvements need to be made.

I was going to describe the scenario but probably wouldnt do it justice, so Blue when you read this, can you fill us in on the details...

Really interested to hear everyone's thoughts on this, and would also like to hear of any other operations like this that occured, and how they went...

Can anyone post the formula used to calculate degree of fire danger.
Is it a 0-100 scale? or does it go higher?

Country Fire Service / Fitness Standards
« on: March 05, 2007, 03:15:34 PM »
Was reading an earlier thread about Fitness levels in the CFS
Has the fitness, or lack thereof ever been an issue for crews?
Has there, or does anyone ever foresee there being a minimum fitness requirement for volunteers?
If we are talkin about OHS&W how does sending someone not capable of aerobic exertion into an emergency situation sound?

CFS Cadet Corner / Duty of Care
« on: March 04, 2007, 10:31:11 PM »
As cadets are "minors"
What sort of duty of care is laid onto the brigade, and has this affected any brigade members from taking on this role?

Obviously in a school setting, after school sport is outside of hours so parents assume duty of care, is this the same situation?

CFS Cadet Corner / Recruiting
« on: March 04, 2007, 10:27:18 PM »
Howdy, this is a continuation of a question I asked in a different group,
just wondering what sort of programs are run for cadets and how are they recruited?
As far as I have seen, it tends to be kids of current CFS members who are mostly cadets?
probably wrong but ya get the idea...

any of you young ones got any suggestions on how you and your mates could be better targeted?

Country Fire Service / Hydrants
« on: February 20, 2007, 04:46:12 PM »
Whose responsibility is it for maintenance of Hydrants/Fire Plugs on roadways. On Sunday during some brigade training, we spent about ten minutes, clearing bitumen off of a hydrant cover on a road that had been resealed. Once into the Hydrant, it took another few minutes to sink the standpipe, after clearing all the build up of stuff in the hole...

This time be could be the difference between a house and a parking lot. I know that i would prefer that these be maintained, especially in my street...

Any suggestions?  :?
