All Equipment discussion / Re: PBi at MVAs
« on: April 09, 2008, 07:56:42 PM »
Why do people persist with the idea that PBI is structural gear only? It is fire fighter protective clothing. Apart from grass and scrub fire fighting why would you not wear the best gear you can?

Absolutely wear PBI to every single job you can. I'd wear it to a cat up a tree..... :-P

Recording is not new - The Para Group Base at One Tree Hill had a serious reel to reel mag tape recording system pre GRN. I first saw that about 15 years ago. Don't think it's still in service though.

« on: March 30, 2008, 09:53:11 AM »
I don't think that is entirely true, an incident manager for example would be well within their rights to record themselves while driving in a command car. This recording would incidentally record people on the other end of radio comms and people coming to the window of the car. As long as the recording is only used for the intended purpose of jogging the memory and preparing notes etc. I don't see a problem.

A lawyer or the courts would determine if a recording is admissible in court not us on a web forum. :-P :-P :-D

Just My opinion.. 8-)

Thanx for all your reply's guys.

Yeah I tried to contest it and get another go but the board said no, so yeah unfortunately I now have to wait till the next intake.

As for not going to the grass fire the night before it's hard when at night we don't get alot of people show up and when its something serious like a large fire its hard to not go. Like if it was a major MVA I would have gone but if it was a minor like fixed alarm wouldnt have bothered.

Thanx again

Fair enough  :-) - Your priorities are for you to work out.... :-)

If we are talking strictly tools then I would go for an Akron branch or three. The my next favourite kit is a well stocked rapid intervention kit for road jobs.

TFT all the way!!!  :-P
Without getting into a ford vs holdens or TFT vs Akron..... :-P Have you used both Gilly and prefer TFT or is TFT the main branch you are used to??

I have to ask why go to a volunteer job the night before a major career acceptance test?

Should have stayed home slept well got up early had a small breakfast then come into town early around 45 minutes to spare. Arrive at SAMFS early.

It's a shame you missed out on testing  :|

Hi All

I draw your attention to the user agreement and ask that everyone please read the guidelines and the agreement.

Please only post in threads if you can add value to the discussion. This is not your personal play ground to incite or inflame.

Please use this site as it was intended to create honest fair and fun discussion based around emergency response.
Do not hide behind anonymity to say things you could not say around your organisation freely.

This is not gossip central and must change now or the site will be closed.

Continue to have fun and let's all change our attitude to this site.

Thanks

what the ?? This is safirefighter not virtual doctor..

Completely inappropriate response to a genuine question. Take a look at this boards description it is meant for clinical discussion.

If you can't add value to the topic don't post.

The success of this site is really dependant on the user.

If we continue to be negative and full of nit picking and criticism it will close. If the community can grow up and start to discuss things in a mature and fun way then perhaps the site will live on.

We have the web space available to have much more image sharing and great discussion about the positives in emergency response.

We should be sharing all the good stuff along with discussing the occasional negatives.

Time for a change in attitude. 8-)

It's not difficult to understand is it?

The filter is fine, that was not my point. It was the extent of the filter.

Lines in sand hard to draw one :-P

I swear I had already replied to this topic recently... oh well take two:

We have always wanted this site to be self regulating and free from over the top moderation.

Mate, no offense, but we can't say He11 here without it being filtered... If thats not over the top I don't know what is.

As far as introducing a Ozfire type, zero criticism policy, I strongly disagree. There are times and matters on which we can all have differing opinions and there are times when occurrences should be criticized or a "Why did this happen" is warranted.

Otherwise we end up living in a small disillusioned world, where we think the way we do things is the best.

As far as having a requirement for name/service/brigade, I can't say I agree but at the same time, it would make for interesting discussion...

Just so you know the swearing filter is not a moderation attempt. It is designed wholly and solely to ensure a safe internet site for kids and all types of people. The no swearing rule is to enhance simple courtesy.
You could liken it to going out with family, you choose not to swear because there are young people around or your mum/wife whoever.
Same applies here, you don't know the age or sensibilities of people who read so don't swear.

It's not difficult to understand is it?

Do you guys and girls even want this site to continue? Serious question.

This site is run at a cost to personal finance and time. If it's not serving the people it was created to help then it will be gone in a blink of an eye.

We have always wanted this site to be self regulating and free from over the top moderation. We saw a site that had a good sense of community and where emergency practitioners of all persuasions could meet online and chat.

If it is not what it should be please let me know and the site will end.

Thanks for the suggestion numbers!

I agree with Mike. Although child boards would be the technically correct way forward. The boards are more visible as they are now.

Cheers :-)

I'm all for having a crack at the establishment (hierarchy) if things aren't right. But I see red when we criticise our peers.

Seems petty and tribal - I can't stand tribal thinking "My tribe does it like this so your tribe is wrong"

Yep - Done the course not the slightest bit of rocket science. Basic Map reading compass work or GPS and walk in a line.

Bit more expertise required to coordinate the whole thing but not hard.....
