SA Firefighter General / Re: SACAD

I had a read of the SACAD Documentation and its going to be quite interesting to say the least especially once summer kicks into high gear next month when the fire season really gets rolling

There is a good chance that brigades with a low call out rate will become abit busier if incidents are close by or the closest brigade cant get a crew and are defaulted

I think the reason behind them asking for crews from Region 4 is because out there its all outback with waist height grass so the brigades like Stirling North,Melrose and Wilmington have experience in fighting fires in the outback

We don't notice the dead trees bittenyakka as the ones they are referring too most likely are in amongst the thick scrub and dense vegetation

potentially dangerous season ahead.

Isnt every bushfire season a potentially dangerous for South Austalia....in all seriousness its good to see councils working real hard to clean up excessive fuel loads that have built up and clearing fire tracks

Thought AF weren't soing this anymore  :?

MFS: SIREN ACTIVATION *URGMSG:

Back when SOC were incharge of our paging and radio call taking the Kalangadoo fire siren was linked up to the paging system so when a fire call happened both the pagers and station siren went off

The new Boss will be sharing a BBQ with region 5 Volunteers on Tuesday 5th of April in Mundulla, this is a open forum so any region 5 volunteers are more then welcome to come along RSVP to VFBA...

Mundulla is abit far for me to travel Bill now if he was sharing a BBQ in Millicent or Mount Gambier that would be good

Emergency Vehicles / Re: New Rescue van for CFS
« on: March 17, 2011, 03:07:34 PM »
Personally i think the concept of having vans fitted out as RCR vehicles is a great idea that has potential come to fruition although as fore-mentioned above the issue of fumes has to be dealt with first in order for this idea to go ahead with

One remedy/possibility that comes to mind would be to have a specialised slide out tray that comes out of the back and allows crew to lift up the generator and place it on the ground

I was abit puzzled about that too baggyass if you at look yesterdays readings  at 14:59 pm Mount Gambier reached 40 degrees with a dew point of -2.0 and the FDI of 75.8 which is extreme :-o considering we were only meant to get to 37

wow....hope they are USAR, Compartment, Hazmat, RCR and Swiftwater qualified, wouldnt want them getting in the way

God forbid you try to ensure you send trained crew up as part of an Angency's response.

There is nothing stopping anyone signing up at http://www.emergencyvolunteering.com.au/ and going up of their own accord.

6739264 that is true however you can't just go all willy nilly and head right over there you've got to wait for a phone call from one of the agencies coordinating the recovery/clean up effort amd they decide where you are placed

It seems like everything down here in the Lower South East is starting grow and
dry off at an alarming pace according to an article in yesterdays Border Watch one of the councils in Mount Gambier not sure which one issued about 120 odd notifications to property owners to clean up their properties or face being given a fine
