Getting back to the tight filtered CFS. Its disgraceful that they are not funding these crucial pieces of equipment. Instead they will make brigades fundraise / get community funding to pay for these items if they want them replaced. Talk about double dipping from the tax payers. ESL what a joke, almost as big of a joke as ES VOLUNTEERS paying the ESL.

I'm really starting to get f'd off with the people who live in these bushfire prone areas (not all cause some do the right thing), but these lazy arse people who are well aware of the environment they live in. They knew when they moved in that there would have been a risk associated with having a house surrounded by bush / scrubland.
Instead of blaming the fire service's for not putting the fire out or not giving them enough warning or telling them whats happening, they should have put plans in place to reduce / stop the risk no matter the size or better still not put themself in that position in the first place by living there.

They took the risk by living there, they deal with the consequence's.

They are a great coupling, we use them on our underground truck. There are a heap of national sparks trucks kicking around with them fitted. We got ours from a supplier with the same name a liquid metal...

Have to agree with MT, you dont need an operate pumps course to operate (at a guess) 95% of the CFS pumps, just good & regular training, oh and maybe a brain.

If we are looking at the Paid/Vol Urban/Vol Rural scenario only, what would you classify Roxby, Mooka, Woomera, Coober and the like. We have no rural threats, our only jobs are AFAs, structures, MVAs etc. (oh and maybe the once in a blue moon taskforce we may get asked for crew)??????

I agree with chook in saying being cert trained is alot more than just AEDs & O2, if you at an MVA and SAAS know your Cert trained and your assisting them they WILL expect you to know exactly what they want & where to get it when they ask for it. It is a big ask training wise to expect a cfs brigade to keep there skills upto scratch on top of all there other training, Full time guys yep no probs, they can spend 1/2 a day training on it every but for the Vols its asking to much i believe.

But just to add all cfs vols should be trained in AED & O2, and all appliances should carry it.

Couldnt agree more BM, if you cant tailor your course to be site/area specific while still covering the competencies required for the subject, a company will find themselves losing customers quickly. If your training provider wont allow you to include collars, Adv resus & AED on a first aid course then find a new one.

It would be a very interesting situation for cfs if they followed the regs by brining you back to station from the fireground, then let you drive your private car home. If you had an accident and injured / killed yourself or others it would open a huge can of worms.

**cough, cough, did someone say lawsuit.

Now, there would need to be some responsibility on an individual in this situation if they were feeling fatigued to arrange transport home but i believe the onus is on cfs to get there firefighters home if they are believed to be fatigued.

So you drive 100+km to the fireground, drive around all day on the fireground. You have done to many hours so they pick you up to bring you back to the fire station. Yep easy done and i like it, sensible.

BUT how does this affect you getting back to your house, will they let you drive your personal car home or will they arrange transport or will they not care cause your driving a car.  :?
