SAAS / Re: Medstar callsigns?
« on: July 22, 2011, 06:05:44 AM »
MedSTAR use similar callsigns to SAAS. There is MedSTAR 71 and MedSTAR 81. I've also heard MedSTAR 143, meaning they start at 1400 and I believe the 3 means they are the 3rd retrieval team (on call).

As far as I am aware, there are 2 teams on base with 1 on call. I've heard they have at least 3 retrievals a day.

SAAS / Re: SAAS Team Leaders
« on: July 02, 2011, 03:07:18 AM »
Some of the other guys can give more info on CTLs and MPSs.

An ACTL (Area Clinical Team Leader) is the TL for a shift. They are the Lima cars (LN, LS, LE, LW) that look after all the crews/stations from their geographical area. For example LS is TL for South which means they are in charge of Emergency (not PTS or ESS) crews from Mitcham, Marion, O'Halloran Hill, Noarlunga, McLaren Vale and Aldinga on their particular shift (South A-E, meaning they follow the same 4 on/4 off pattern as their crews.)

An RTL is different to a VTL. An RTL is a paid staff member who is a Paramedic or above who is in charge of a group of regional stations. They are essentially the same as Metro ACTLs, except the RTL does not follow their 'shift', they are RTL 24/7. For example OS9 is South-East Fluerieu RTL who is in charge of Strath, Goolwa, Meadows and Yankalilla.

A VTL is a volunteer officer who has been elected by their peers to be their team leader. Each station has a VTL and they are essentially the link between the RTL and SAAS as a whole and  the station. They do not have their own vehicle or call-sign.

FP1 (Fluerieu Peninsula 1) is the TL in charge of the FP cars. I believe they are a CTL.

The SPRINT Unit (SPRINT Cars, Bicycle Response Unit and Motorcycle Response Unit) have their own Clinical Team Leader too.

No, an MPS is quite high up. The MPS in Victor is in charge of Victor, Goolwa, Strath, Yank, Meadows, Mount Barker and Stirling. RTL sits below him and is in charge of the Vol stations.

LT is not an MPS. LT is a paramedic TL of the Non-Emerg services.

Not sure of Victor MPS's callsign, but he is a daily job (9-5).

There are a number of M'sPS, ie MPS - Metro East, Metro North etc.

Who is HM2?

OS9 is based in Strath, not Goolwa. His Territory has operational markings. If you have seen another Territory with corporate markings (white with no high-visibility markings and the SA Ambulance logo on the doors) then that belongs to the MPS from Victor.

As far as I am aware, the Troopy isn't back. But since the beginning of the year its been gone. It could have returned, I haven't been to V station in a while, so I may well be wrong!

The RTL is used for major incidents (big MVA for example) and can be used if crews request Paramedic back up. The RTL is not necessarily an ICP. I don't believe they pick and choose their jobs. They are usually paged if something big goes down. As for first responding, that's a bit difficult. OS9 Covers Strath, Goolwa, Meadows and Yankalilla. Unless he is in the town the job is occurring in, I doubt he would be quicker than a crew would be.

V500 usually operates out of an Ambulance not a SPRINT car and is usually a spare team member. Essentially operates uner the same idea as SPRINT.

I just think working a single responder out of an emergency ambulance defeats the purpose of having a SPRINT like vehicle that sits in the vehicle bay. Anyhow, thanks for the info.

The Land Cruiser has been relocated to another area. I have seen V500 operate out of Fleet 152 which is the spare V fleet (old Merc, old livery and has done over 200,000km).

SPRINT cars do not operate outside of metro. I have never heard of a SPRINT car being used in Goolwa.

Yeah sorry about that. A VTL operates from Strathalbyn and can work in the South Coast too. Call sign is OC9.

(Cheers to Alan; courtesy of info provided by him via Ozfire  :-D, thanks mate)

Yeah, OS9 is his callsign now. And yes, he is an RTL.

a 40 call sign usually means its a not operational crew. EG, an RTL with Cert II students on board doing some driving can use the call sign 'ST40' for example. They can be called upon to help if required but they aren't actively seeking jobs so to speak.
