The comps are to be revamped and I have not heard if they will be on this year or not so I will ask that question at the next VFBA meeting. I know that the Naracoorte brigade has been trailing some new modern events last year and these where to be shown last year at the comps.  Put I have to agree with pip,for the comps to keep going there needs to be a very big increase of adult teams from across the state.

CFS also need to provide better prize's rather than a medal or trophy how about some cash or a piece of firefighting equipment. We could learn alot from the interstate comps and I am well aware of a number of cfs/vfba members going interstate last year to look at the comps.

I for one have been asking for the comps people to run a judges school so as people can all be trained to a level, rather than one judge passes this team then does not pass the next for mistakes that are made on the run.

If you wont to keep the comps going then show your support and get your brigade to enter a team, its a great way of meeting other CFS Volunteers but its also a fun weekend. If its on at Goolwa then there is lots to do in that area over the weekend and I know a some very nice food places out there. So come on one and all support it before they scrapp it....

Yes they should be passing on these calls to the nearest brigade/service

SA Firefighter General / Re: US volunteers?
« on: July 02, 2007, 07:23:11 AM »
from what I have read on a number of sites about USA volunteer fire stations they are paid volunteers like our retain system. There are fully volunteer stations in countys that are small or countys that dont have alot of money to pay people for there service. As for appliances there brushfire trucks are great but they dont have appliances that can fully attack a grass fire like our aussie appliances. They where 15 years ago looking at our tankers when I was in the CFA and got to see these at work first hand at a number of good working jobs...

The USA fire service by far has the heights amount of summer firefighting deaths per year and if you go into utube and just look at some of there firefighting action you can see why......

So life is not always that good in god bless america country....

naracoorte, nangwarry, millicent and mount gambier are the only staff saas in the southeast, they are looking at opening a new saas staff station in the region due to the volunteers not getting out the door.90% of the time naracoorte will go to penola/lucindale and kingston but of late they have been going north to back up keith/bordertown...

Well one would hope that those that did the last shift and other staff at SOCC had a big piss up and said good bye to a very good system.I guess the new radio staff at MFS will not be happy if we are happy in the wee small hours as we acknowledge a page in our happy voice....To those staff at the old SOCC I thank you for your support and happy words in the wee small hours.....

Country Fire Service / auxiliary members
« on: June 26, 2007, 08:21:30 PM »
How many brigade's have a auxiliary brigade and what do these members do?

Naracoorte brigade auxiliary is there to provide catering to the brigade and the group at call outs during the year. They also do some of the catering at the region five training centre and this year they took on a support role to the apsley CFA group with catering as part of our on going support of crossborder sharing. The auxiliary is mainly made up of female members but they do accept males and anyone who is willing to help. The auxiliary can be called out at anytime day or night and they have access to local foodstores 24/7.

I am just after some feed back on what other brigade auxiliary's do and if your brigade does not have an auxiliary have you looked at setting one up as this is another way that community minded people can help.

SASES / Re: SASES Deployments to NSW 17/06/07
« on: June 20, 2007, 08:56:37 PM »
You can not stop people going,if people want to give up there time and life to go help others then good on them,in some cases its very rare that SES are going to any where outside of the state. As for the call at Milang then that's a issue that should have been taken care of at SESHQ with coverage, could not the CFS have attended?? To those going to NSW go and do your best and make the people of NSW see the other side of the Volunteer's ,sure they will welcome and thank you like they have done in the past to CFS/MFS.

If someone does not wish to have their personal message on the pager site they have to send a email and that pager will not come up.

CFS Cadet Corner / Re: what is going on with cadets?
« on: June 18, 2007, 07:27:35 AM »
I would have to disagree there,at if a cadet has come up from cadets to the main brigade we should let them attend some call outs at the direction of the brigade captain or any other officer.Having said that members under 18 years old should not attend MVA's.on the first appliances may be on the second and help with traffic duty away from the action.Remember in this day and  once young people hit 16 they want to be involved in something that is going to give them a buzz or a high. TOO many times we are saying to cadets you can't do this and you can't do that  Yes I agree we have to protect them and we also have to make sure we do all the legal stuff but at the end of teh day if cadets dont get a chance to become a firefighter at 16 then there is no point in having cadets at all..This is my view only;;;;; So people you should give these young people ago and let become firefighters at 16 with a mentor from the brigade. I thinks sometime we forget that in the city areas there is lots of fun stuff for cadets to do but once you get out to the country there is not much. Cadets are our future of this service and in many country towns they are the next leaders of local brigade's .
