It is the smartest thing to split your deliveries and supply lines, when you pull up to a job you can run hose from the side straight into the job and there is then no confusion as to where the hoses are going. It has been proven to be very successful in cfa and they do see a lot of flame.

All Equipment discussion / Re: New Burnside Pumper
« on: March 10, 2009, 09:44:57 AM »
Actually it's an urban / rural pumper, that's why they have the cab halo system, auxiliary pump, raise able suspension etc...
[/quote]

No it is an Australian URBAN pumper tanker, this is the way of the future for Australian urban fire fighting appliances. MFB have had aux pumps, halo systems and adjustable suspension put on all their new pumper tankers to meet the new risks facing the Australian urban fringe areas.

Also i am confused as to why the new burnside truck has the outlets at the rear and not the side to make life easier for crews and to provide space for a pump operator.

I don;t think you have to worry to much numbers.

a) brigades like Burnside who can justify what they are getting. Due to a large population base and hence development have a hard enough time getting the money form their fund raising. so a brigade that does thirty calls probably wont have the ability to raise the money.

Let me know if i am wrong but doesn't burnside only have a very very small number of streets with houses on them actually in their primary area. Remember what you do with MFS does not and should not contribute to your appliance allocation. If they need an appliance of this sort in Burnside why did MFS not extend their boundary a few streets.

Is it not because 409 and 329 are being replaced by new 9's next year. The workload of appliances in 20 is a lot higher and it is good to move the trucks on to slow stations such as 22.

Well 3 fire services was meant to be a joke to point out there are 3 operating at the moment, what it should be is one fire service with 3 categories, fulltime urban, volunteer urban, volunteer rural.

Country Fire Service / Time for 3 Fire services
« on: January 28, 2009, 10:23:31 AM »
Reading the latest volunteer mag i find this interesting and the reason urban brigades cannot get anywhere in the CFS, time for 3 fire services MFS, CFS URBAN, CFS RURAL.

i quote "however, feedback from volunteers has indicated that some feel our vehicle are overly complex and carry stowage they will never use. other have commented that our vehicles have become overly "urban" centric...

When only 5% of CFS are really urban brigades with NO support and all the rural guys making these comments and being involved in vehicle committees how are we supposed to move forward. Fine if they think these 34P's are too urban then every urban brigade gets them and send the barn carts out to the sticks.

Numbers that is so true...too all over the shop
My concerns are say for example factory fire in mount barker, on arrival going like stink with other factories under threat by CFS standards you go for a 3rd alarm B risk and get what a whole heap of rural trucks with no BA operators and could not pump to save themselves. Unfortunately the CFS does not have the response plans or vehicles to support this kind of job so i would be asking for specific appliances such as hahndorf, bridgewater, stirling pumpers with the addition of 203, 205 and possibly MFS pumps. You need to look at the job and because there is no CAD system to support the call just some guys in comms guessing who to send sometimes because they have no data from CFS regions you will need to ask for specific resources such as a skyjet or bronto to get the job done.

One big reason Heavy Rescue was removed from the green book is nearly all CFS/SES vehicles do not meet the true criteria for a "Heavy Rescue" truck. Look at rescue in QLD, NSWFB, MFB, and CFA vols who have dedicated rescue trucks, no Dyna's or canters, big trucks..These brigades carry a large variety of rescue gear, multiple hand tools, multiple airbags and heavy lifting jacks for trucks and trains, heaps of chocks and blocks, timbers and cribbing, and other means of rescue tools. What does most SA rescues carry, CFS will not even replace airbags now because they are once again "NOT REQUIRED", sorry for that guy trapped under his tractor, so all these people saying we have a heavy rescue are merely saying their truck is over weight not because of the gear they carry.

Why are you so worried doesn't your name say EX-SES member so you don't have to worry.

Plus you may find conbined services will just show where resources are not needed like berri, i think 3 red trucks is enough.

The point of having rapid intervention is to be able to respond a 2nd truck with rescue crew to a job as well as the 2nd rescue, if you get there and it is a small job and you can do a cut out with RIV and the person is extricated then you can stop the rescue. To the public it looks like a rescue resource is on scene quickly rather then wait 30 mins for help.

Mt Barker do not have RIV, it was asked for when the old rescue was taken away, RIV to be put on dennis at the time and now the 34P, region said not required....

Also regarding the Bridgewater fire, yes it is in a bad area, yes smoke showing, and yes the 2ND alarm is a good call...But do not send your whole group and a strike team when you arrive on scene to find it to be so so small. A good officer should be able to upgrade and downgrade and make the call when on scene, a good officer will also not drain the whole group and smaller stations like your upper sturts for no reason.

Another thing to look at if over a few weeks these same brigades get dragged out for mop up duty on these massive fires of 2 acres and under then the day the big one does happen a lot of bosses will say sorry mate you've left 3 times this week for nothing i need you here, or families going not this time dad we were going out, it will take it's toll on people that don't have secure government jobs or have families at home  waiting. Not saying vollies won't go to jobs but if you don't need them send them home or don't respond them at all. It is only January and a long fire season ahead so don't burn them out.

Mister teddy all i want to say is you fight the fire you have, not the one you may get...

One the worst days that fires can occur aircraft are often grounded and become useless, so they used them why they could, what ever happened to a fire being fought by fire trucks and ground crew, you have all become too dependent on the aircraft, one day there will be too many fires and what will you all do, say this is too big for us and go home. pull your heads in.

CFS firey you obviously have a lot of time on your hands, and looking at those website you suggested makes me think your one of those firefighters who loves those new hospital style fire stations and the new clean cut plastic trucks, i hate nothing more then fire brigade related things such as stations, trucks, websites, what ever that have no special touch of that brigade and it's history, those websites are so boring and have no individuality at all.

What makes it the nineties and what other CFS websites are out there that are more up to today's standards as you put it.

What should happen is the brigade is paged to a job type, address and who is going. Then when a brigade books on the road or rings MFS they get the further information, this may then prompt brigades to upgrade responses and if they are not mobile then go maybe i should send someone else. Pagers are only there to alert members of a firecall not to give them everything under the sun about the job, maybe we should go page to tone only pagers. You cannot tell me you would get the same amount of members turn out to a RCR just with an address or RCR-no entrapments spill only.

No entrapments this time Zippy...but you start doing this and it will keep happening, possibly the brigade needs to read the green book stating the requirements of the rescue brigade.

Country Fire Service / Is that the time,,,send the next resource

Hi guys

Just noticed today another Rescue which there seemed to be the same old long delay to get further help, someone from Onka Group might be able to fill in the gaps.

13:47:46 16-12-08 MFS: *CFSRES INC036 16/12/08 13:46,RESPOND RCR,BALHANNAH ,BALHANNAH MAP 0 0 0 TG140,BALHANNAH WOODSIDE RD OUTSIDE POST OFFIC,E 1 X TRAPPED,LOBE19 OAKB00 CFS Oakbank/Balhannah Response

13:53:13 16-12-08 LOBE: RESPOND LOBETHAL STATION SIREN MANUALLY ACTIVATED CFSRES CFS Lobethal Response

13:58:56 16-12-08 MFS: *CFSRES INC036 16/12/08 13:46,RESPOND RCR,BALHANNAH ,BALHANNAH MAP 0 0 0 TG140,BALHANNAH WOODSIDE RD OUTSIDE POST OFFICE X TRAPPED group rescue persons req CFS Onkaparinga RCR Info

Now i may be on the wrong path here but it seems if Lobethal are struggling at the 6 minute mark as a rescue resource time to get the next rescue on the road. How does this group respond extra operators from the group, do they respond in their private vehicles or do they repspond a fire appliance.

Remember if you standing there with no one cover your butt and send help. You can always stop a truck.

Country Fire Service / Re: Burnside Responding into East Torrens Group
« on: November 27, 2008, 11:05:12 AM »
If brigades have no data on responses which 95% do not, then the RCR directory is based on suburbs. You will find with CAD that if it is done correctly it will not matter who is friends with who or what group you are from if a brigade is closer then so be it...

Mate i am not somewhat bitter as i already drive a red scania for a living probie. interesting 2 shots at the PAT 2, are they planning on you failing, shouldn't everyone be at their peak fitness to get in the job.

Correct most fire services are intaking courses of 30+ with a total of 90+ recruits being put through per year to keep up with retirements and station growth.

SAMFS / Re: RECRUITMENT 2008

Correct me if i am wrong but they are not the first 36 as they are the somewhat "dregs" from the last intake so in fact are in the 90's, so once again instead of intaking a fresh batch of firefighters they are going for whats left over. I am thinking they should only get one shot at retesting for the pat 2 as they should already be up to that level of fitness. i know interstate services are having trouble with the "quality" of applicants in the later courses as in a normal situation they would have been cut from the group.

SAMFS / Re: MFS Monitors
« on: November 19, 2008, 07:59:08 AM »
Most ground monitors will range anywhere between 1250-2000lpm and on top your looking at least 3000lpm+. Some are single 64mm feed some are two and to get a good flow on your deck gun you will need at least 2 good feeds to maintain a good flow.

Is this to decide if they will will use the current pool for the first 09 course or intake again to fill those positions?
