it is no different to Rockleigh CFS, who are currently sharing a station with Monarto

Not quite...

Rockleigh 24 is actually a Monarto appliance - as the Rockleigh brigade doesn't exist in its own right yet....

At some stage in the future, they are likely to become a brigade in their own right......

Not on Promo site, cos I don't think it exists....certainly hasn't been gazetted in the Government Gazette!

What time was it paged - I'll have a look at my PDW file...

Isn't

"Adelaide Fire Strath 34P"
"Send Strath 34P"
"Strath 34P mobile incident 81"
"Roger, Strath 34P, Adelaide Fire Out"

Just as easy?

East Torrens strike team ended up with Mudla Wirra 24 & Mallala 22 on the page.

More interesting since Mallala 22 ceased to exist over 2 years ago!

The acknowledgement of the pager message, and the mobile message are no change to what we are (supposed) to have been doing for the last couple of years.

Perhaps SACAD is better at showing up those who haven't been complying over the last few years.......

Email from the SACAD implementation team this morning (Monday) advises implementation held over for 48 hours, due to concerns for weather conditions, particularly on Tuesday.

At this stage due to occur Wednesday night......

I have to agree with Mr T ( he beat me to the posting!)

At the time of the pictured Rendalsham appliance, it was well and truly "my truck"  for the reasons outlined by Mr T.

With the introduction of ESL funding, that is really when it all changed, and the appliances were truly the state's appliances, and could (and can) be moved anywhere.

So we get a crew deck, but have nowhere to put our BA, salvage sheets and other urban type gear that we carry........?

We need to build appliances that suit the area they are stationed - I personally think there should be rural 44 appliances in places like the West coast / Eyre Peninsula, and 24's, minus the crew deck, in places like the Adelaide Hills.

I am all for standardisation - BUT standardisation should not mean one size fits all (cos it can't, and it doesn't!)

And therein lies the difference - we are regularly using both our 25mm side lines - pretty much every bushfire mop up....... so some brigades would use both, while others only need one...

It'd be nice if brigades could choose which they want, on any new vehicle of this type!

I think I read it only has one side line, not two.....?  If so, I think that is a mistake.

Why are we so hooked on 2 live reels ?  it has the dead reel. If we can just get over always having a charged line with you i think loosing a sideline may be a good thing.

We use both live reels on the appliance.  And we find it easier to pick up the roll of 25 mm layflat, and carry that to the end of the existing hose, (layflat or hosereel) and bowl it out and connect, rather than pulling the length off a dead reel, and dragging it through the scrub, to connect it to where you want it.

Certainly in my area, it is not uncommon to take out 4, 5 or 6 lengths of layflat, and go up (or down ) a really steep hill, to get the water where you need it.  Bowling the hose out as you go is a better option for us.

Funds go back to the brigade(s) involved.

Basic idea is if you sign up the the company, they make a specific donation to the brigade in that area.

It started with one brigade, and there is an intention to expand the program to other areas.

So the local community are supporting their local brigade - not general revenue, and not someone else's brigade!

Believe it was movement of gel / foam for the use of the bombers at Paney

Perhaps some are already out there ?  (Not everything appears on pagers) - or the risk of something happening in those areas is high, and taking crews away from those areas, and sending to Paney would leave no crews in those high risk areas?

Or maybe they have all started harvest, and are not able to leave?

Who knows!!!

I don't think the km travelled is the issue with some of these appliances in busy brigades.  It is more the number of times it is started from cold (pretty much every call) and goes flat out to the call, where it idles for some time, before ambling back to the station, ready to do it again.

That type of driving is not generally conducive to good engine wear - but it is the nature of emergency vehicles.

All Equipment discussion / Re: lighting-stowege

We purchased a portable LED light, called a Smith light.

Only around $600, and won't light up the front of a house, but was useful for us for things like trees down, as you could easy carry the light to where you were working.

We have very little space left on the appliance to stow anything, and being at its weight limit already, adding gen sets etc was not going to work!

A 24 is what we have been asking for in my area - 34's are just too big for us.

I think I read it only has one side line, not two.....?  If so, I think that is a mistake.

Any 24 must have some capacity to take a couple of BA sets, chainsaw & traffic control stuff (which is pretty much what we have at the moment) - and 5 or 6 crew.

In my area, a crew deck is pretty much a waste of space, but a twin cab would be very useful.

We need to supply the feedback, and hopefully end up with a decent new appliance in about 3 years, when our old 24 comes up to its 20 years!!!

We use Fleurieu Embroidary at Lonsdale for all of our shirts / jumpers etc, never had any problems with them.

Just remember you are not allowed to use the CFS Insignia on anything anymore without the approval of the Chief Officer. I believe one brigade in Region One got a spanking for this, everyone else then received a fairly sternly worded memo about it.

So if your not allowed to then why don't they provide t-shirts as part of our kit....mongs

Umm...the bottle green T-shirts with the taxi logo on the front and SA Country Fire Service on the back are standard PPC issue. If you dont have them, something wrong in your chain somewhere......

I see Region 6 was handing out T-shirts to brigade members, with the CFS star on the front.....don't see it happening in Region 1 tho'......

Excellent if you have mobile phone coverage...... bad luck in my Group where more than half the brigades have no mobile phone coverage, or where the members are there is no coverage, so they can't ring!!

As I mentioned before, these systems cannot be one size fits all - but if something works for your brigade, then go with it!!

Several 20 litre drums dumped in the creek........ drums labelled Toluene & Acetone.  Most with lids on, a few without.  Been there for at least a week....

Road crash Research pagers look like they are back again.

Just a guess, but they perhaps stopped sending them for a bit, until they sorted out the issue of apparently paging RC Research for every job that the fire service were sent to, regardless of whether it was a crash or not!
