medevac you should work for the news or tabloid with comments like that.
I have read the article. Dale was speaking  at a forum for local residents and said to the people that in the Sturt Group we look after about 20000 residents and have 11 fire appliance to cover the area, you do the maths.
Basically he was saying to them have a fire plan and don't rely on us to be at your place.

One day ( I hope it does not happen)
you will have a ambo in a car at a mva/rcr and it will catch on fire.
That will make thing change.

I went to a OIL SPILL and we were told before we arrived that we were not needed from the SAAS,  we kept going and well put it this way we cut him out.

SA Firefighter General / stop/slow - speed up sign
« on: November 04, 2005, 01:57:15 PM »
Where can I get a STOP/ SLOW sign from :?
I am sure that the sign I use has STOP, but the other side has HAVE A LOOK AND SPEED UP.
I do like to wave the sign at the faces of the drivers and make out that I am going to drop it on the car. It slows them down

Blackwood did want CAFS and it took about 8 years of hard work to finally get the project up and running.
With lots of work put in my brigade members, some went overseas to look at different ideas( paid for by themselves )
Yes we were lucky the CFS said go for it, but it is an appliance made by firefighters for firefighters. We where not the only brigade at the time to have ok from CFS HQ
As for MFS wannabees lol -
Remember if you don't try new ideas you go nowhere.
I think that CAFS is away of the future.
Knock if you like but please come and have a play first.
I would take CAFS over a 24p any day

life saving ?? because you have a patch lol
Any officer/SF will/should be  able to give crew members jobs without looking at patches.
And where would you have the patches, you can't put them on the new PBI or the nomex turnout coats.

Country Fire Service / Re: Experience markings
« on: October 20, 2005, 11:42:48 AM »

you just have markings for the important stuff, and the highest qualification, ie, level 3, Hazmat, RCR... If you have those three, you have to have done levels 1 & 2, BA, Snr First aid etc...
So you would have
Level 3
BA
RCR
Hazmat
Snr First Aid
Advanced Resuscitation
Chainsaw
Sector Commander
Plus other scout badges

I hate the boy scout patches, with about 5 million courses these days you would look like a patch quilt

All Equipment discussion / Re: Red or White
« on: October 03, 2005, 10:14:32 AM »
I read a report a few years ago from the USA about the safest colour of fire appliance ( they have lots of colours in the USA)
The best was the yellow/lime green The only problem was that the public thought they looked like school buses. Not a problem here
White was second – Problem in areas with snow and in white smoke
Red was the most recognised as a fire appliance but had problems at night and when it was dark.

I think that CAFS is fantastic. I must admit I was not 100% sure about it to start with.
We have spent many hours training to work out the best way to get the best results. We had many hours of head scratching and research. Now that has been done it is easy to use. On the CAFS the best things has been the following
We use 38mm hose (on hose reel 60m) at a flow rate of about 80 litres a minute. So with a tank of 1500lt that gives us 18 minutes. These has a great throw of CAFS
If we need to do some mop up we can add extra lay flat on the end, we reduce the flow down to about 50liters a minute (can’t remember the exact rate)
The other good thing is that we only need to use 51mm hoses ( we carry 64mm for boosting and getting water in ) This is because of the excellent performance of the 51mm when using CAFS.
When using 51mm or 38mm the throw is much better with CAFS than water.
If we need to we can take in out of CAFS and use it as a normal pump.
But I think the most impressive thing is the knockdown. Having used this on car fires, house fires, grass fires etc. I think the best example I can use is at fire we had a large pile of trees cut down and was burning very hot. We had a crew from another brigade that had just starting to add water (we needed a few hoses) In our corner we knocked down the fire very quickly. Being one of the first times I had used it I was very impressed with what I saw.
The funny thing is that a lot of people love to bag CAFS and it feels like they want it to fail. I am not sure why this is. I think most of these people have not has a good chance to see CAFS and have a play
Just my opinion

All Equipment discussion / Do we need Scanias ??
« on: September 21, 2005, 12:07:04 PM »
Yes I would love a Scania, but do we need them.Is it only a cosmetic thing :?
What is wrong with the Hino or Isuzu  :?
Would it be better to have an appliance with a PTO and better lockers than waste money on a Scania or have more type 2 pumpers :?

Why do people keep bashing us in the Sturt group, we have made lots of improvements to the CFS like many other brigades and groups
As for the comments
More likely that that group wasn't the one's to think of it and introduce it – What a load of Cr*p
And
your group made the decision to stock pile nomex, in an attempt to stall the issuing of PBI - mmmmmm makes you wonder who's safety are they concerned with - the fire fighters or the directors of a company who sells nomex and are on the Group Executive!
The reason for this was (which I have asked why) the concerns for using it in summer time.
This has nothing to do with who we have purchased equipment from
And
Maybe the Group executive thinks its fire fighters and officers are expendable! What a stupid comment that was oz fire

SA Firefighter General / Keep pushing the boundaries
« on: September 18, 2005, 03:15:59 PM »
Well done to the CFS brigade members for using fire hoods,
Yes some people are what if
It has not been approved
We need people to ask these questions, but more importantly we need volunteers to push the boundaries (not in a dangerous way)
Just a few things that Volunteers have done and introduced

Fire appliance made by firefighters
   90m hose reels
   Monitors
   Paging of fire calls
   PPV
   Blue lights on fire appliances
   Hooligan tool
   Turn out pants and coat

The list just keeps going
Keep up the good work
