Country Fire Service / call signs
« on: March 26, 2007, 07:31:24 PM »
What is the deal with CFS call signs lately. Some brigades have pumpers with rescue gear on them but they use the call sign Rescue. Others have the same type of appliance with rescue gear but use the call sign Pumper,24P etc. The thing is if you say Rescue that doesnt indicate any water capacity etc and it could get confused with rescue appliances with no water like Naracoorte and Aldinga Beach etc. I thought this would be a standard call sign issue.

Even the multi million dollar formula one cars can break down , so any fire truck is vulnerable to failure under extreme conditions.

Country Fire Service / Competition memories
« on: March 16, 2007, 06:14:15 PM »
Anyone else have some funny/interesting memories from CFS competitions over the years?
I remember the CFS providing a fleet of small aircraft for staff and volunteers to fly to Port Lincoln (North Shelds)for comps. Wonder what that cost?
Also a certain region 1 brigade that was asked to re-run their dry hose drill event after a complaint by another team that this region 1 brigade had supplied their own hoses!! (go the graphite)

« on: March 16, 2007, 06:02:27 PM »
Have heard stories about NSW fires in the 90`s. 4-5 CFS appliances were stripped of hose to do a hose lay down hill. The pump was just ticking over due to the gain in gravity.

I believe the tower would be owned by national sparks, as it is on their land in Cleland. The rent would be $0 I reckon.

I quote
`The court was told that a 2003 inquest into the fires heard from a fire brigade controller who said if they had been given adequate warning, they would have saved all the buildings in Warragamba.`

Now that is a big call to make>>>

Well the retained from Mt Gambier were the only ones who could apply for the full time positions in MT Gambier so you cant use that as a typical format for a drill squad. Good jobs are hard to get, get over yourselves.

Yes but what you do as a volunteer is not your paid job so how could you claim it as a work deduction>???
