Why not split the appliance needs into three parts?

Rural:
14/24/34
Depending on the size requirements of the area. You may as well drop the designation of 'P' and just build all the damn appliances with a bigger pump.

Urban:
Light Pumper (eg: Current 12's)
Medium Pumper (Current SACFS NSWFB Type 2 Pumpers)
Heavy Pumper (Akin to the MFB or SAMFS Scanias)

Specialist:
Specifically designed Rescue appliances, with large stowage, PTO driven Pumps/Generators
Specifically designed Hazmat appliances, EG: State Hazmat, maybe another one out in the sticks.

Then for each brigade, you draw fom a mix of these. Brigades that have Rural/Urban risk? Then maybe  24 and a medium pumper. Brigades like Barker? Maybe a Heavy+Light Pumper and a 34? A busy RCR brigade? Then a specialist stand alone rescue.

Of course if for example a birgade carries Minimum RCR gear, then throw it on another truck. etc etc

Huh?

Your previous answer did come across as snarly... Camo wasn't the only one that noticed it ;)

MFS: RESPOND Tree Down 01/11/06 10:53,DRUIDS AV,MT BARKER, MAP 172 L 6 ,,TREE DOWN AT MT BARKER SWIMMING POOL - ON POWER LINES AND MAY HAVE DAMAGED LPG BULLET- P1 - FROM STAFF - 0437 384 371,72120 1279*CFSRES:
That's the only call they were paged for in Mt Barker - it would explain the BA set with no fire...

that must of been it.

and 2090 i got no idea...maybe things are done differently with BA seats.  Might just be a precaution.  Was just being curious no need to get snarly.

Snarly? Just suggesting that all BA seats are about is different stowage of the same equipment, hence the use of the equipment does not change just because it is stowed diferently. Mind you Police Rescue has enough trouble using RCR gear with their belt and side arm on, let alone with a BA set on  :-P

There seems to be a large amount of confusion in this thread:

The pager messger:

SHQ: *CFSRES: PENOLA RESPOND FUSE BOX FIRE IGA 23 AURTUR STREET PENOLA BEHIND THE SHOP < 3/11/2006 17:20:15
MFS: RESPOND GRASS FIRE 03/11/06 17:18,BARCELONA RD,NOARLUNGA DOWNS, MAP 186 C 16 ,,,8334 8124 431*CFSRES:

These are from two different sources.

The SHQ: or MFS: at the beggining of the page simply shows from where it originates. It has nothing to do with what service (CFS/MFS/SES) is responded. Then the second most important part the *CFSRES:. This triggers Tone 7 on the pager, as well as activating doors/lights/sirens at the station. Some brigades use *URGMSG: as well as other services:

OH181 Crew Welfare Check URGMSG

Thanks Pip. Ryan, as you'll see from the SACFS Pumping standards that Pip posted, there is a *slight* difference between pumps that the CFS uses. Mind you these standards vary across Australia, with places Like Melbourne and Sydney having some 'Super Heavy' pumpers pushing ridiculous amounts of water around.

Mind you, you wont notice a huge difference between the pump literage until you are boosting premises, using monitors or running multiple lines off a single pump.

The Dennis has a bench seat setup, with I believe all four BA sets across the back seats(correct me if I'm wrong). Camo, why would you get out of the applance to an MVA with a set on if there is no fire? That would be like getting out of the appliance walking to the locker and donning a set... You don't do that do you?

All BA seats allow you to do, is don/startup the set IN the appliance, rather than have to walk to a locker, don and then start up. A time saving device really.

Did the closer brigade have a pumper?

IF it turned out to be a fire IM sure the "closer" brigade would have got a call too, I know if I was in charge Id send a pumper brigade if they were able to go.  Really not that much differende.  People make too much of a fuss over stuff.

Do you understand what a pumper is? Do you understand what makes a pumper different from a 24/24P/34/34P? Do you understand when you would notice a diference?

Also, seeing as though the CFS A) Has only a few Pumpers, and B) According to some, only has two *real* pumpers, do you realise how difficult its going to be for you to get your precious pumper brigade?

Tone 7, Youre an interesting chap. LOL LOL LOL OMG OMG LOL we have as many per appliance as we need. Our Hazmat and Rural appliances both have two GRNs. I really cant see a need for more than one on a 'normal' appliance as only the OIC is meant to have GRN? Now, more VHF's for the crews could be good.

"OMG DUDE" Grow up.

Wouldya look at what I found? After a simple google search:
http://tinyurl.com/ya49ox

The first result?
http://www.nswfb.nsw.gov.au/community/factsheets/english/30_sabre.php

The NSWFB SABRE program. The fire service actively going out and visitng residents, as well as *encouraging* them to contact their local station when their alarm goes into low battery mode.

As has been said before, get of your high horse, you damn glory hunter.

EDIT: Less Table breaking with shorter Google URL.

CyberCitizen, no helmet? The OIC and both BA crew have helmets....?

The training mishap was a video taken at a public exhibition. Both members who donned and entered the building had very ittle experiance, with one only being on the Dept. around a month. There is a longer version that I have around here somewhere, showing them roll up, P1, and get to work with the involved struture being the excercise.

I have mixed feelings about the handles. They are great for rural jobs in goat country, yet they can be a bit large and clumsy feeling for internal work. They shouldnt make a huge difference for gas cooling techniques as long as you take the time to set the branch correctly.

Country Fire Service / Re: state comps
« on: October 30, 2006, 12:28:18 PM »
It would be great to see the CFS modernise the comps a whole lot. A couple of BA event would be fantastic. You just need to look at the comps held by some other Australian Fire Services to see what could be done.

no...

firstly i would respond further surrounding CFS brigades as they are closer, for more BA operators, since 3 aint gonan cut it. hopefully these brigades would actually crew...

not much point responding MFS for ladders around here anyway, unless your talking about an actual ladder type truck? or a skyjet?

Are you sure? The OP states that the MFS station is closer than any other CFS resource.

And by the way, what is with the MFS generally having ladders longer than the CFS?

We only have Akron on sidelines. everything else is old brass which you twist to switch on. this limits the members hwo are trained in CFB.
Why do you still have these? Are you unable to order new ones in?

We have a nice range of Akrons, TFT's, both auto and not, as well as the older twist style 25mm branch, and a couple of large old brass 38/64mm. In fact I think we might even have every type of branch in service over the past years.

Well, as CFS_Firey suggested, you still cant see past your rope. Its the duplication of the system to allow for any (no matter how rare) incident of a part of the system breaking. Nothing*should* break as, yes its checked, logged, etc etc, but if it does, I like having my arse covered.

SAMFS / Re: MFS Comm Cen

Hang on isn't the MFS adimently saying that they don't want to be involved in the politics of dispatching brigades?

Isn't this also a very good benifit of getting SACAD that the computer will take into account many variables and dispatch whoever can get the requied resources their fastest. In an ideal world we as FF's would acknowlage that our job is to protect lives and do the job. It is sad that getting more calls to your brigade name brings some benifits eg funding and being noticed. The ability to remove a large ammount of human control from the dispatch center will be good.

If you want to talk about dispatch politics, you would hope that when SACAD comes in, the correct resources gets turned out. Tree down next to the fire station? CFS/MFS. Storm damage to a house? If life risk, CFS/MFS, if not then SES. Animal rescue? CFS/MFS. RCR? the closest RCR Resource.

Thank god, finally a proper siren. It'll be good to have the old Hi-Lo back again.

CFS_Firey, I would imagine all of the appliances would come with the PA system and the electronic horns at least, as they are built into the siren controls.

Country Fire Service / Re: CABA Accreditation
« on: October 26, 2006, 12:16:32 AM »
You do the inital 2.5 day course, then you are *meant* to blow a cylinder whilst doing BA related training atleast once every three months. Then after 5 years is up, youre meant to go back and do a single day refresh course.

The reason for this is that its quite possible in certain areas and not wear BA for that long.

Why dont we have programs in place ot help these people? More PR for us, huge community benefit.

Other services do it.
