SA Firefighter General / Re: SACAD
« on: October 12, 2011, 09:38:48 AM »
So.. go live is just under three weeks away.

Have any groups or brigades received official direction from the CFS about new requirements for resource tracking? SACAD will require appliances statewide to book ack, mobile, arrived and clear of call. Wondering if this info has been disseminated, and if not when it will?

Perhaps something brigades should have been getting into the swing of for the last few months.

Alex,

This procedure was explained last night at Gum groups pre-fire season operational briefing. Most officers in the group were present and are now aware...

Obviously some relief crews heading to NT but does anyone know any info re how many apliances/volunteers are heading to innaminka?

If this keeps up damn its gunna be a long summer!

Apologies for the late reply...

First strike team up was R4, followed by R2. R3 came to the party and the R4 crews flew home, replacement crews flown in. Rain came and spoiled the fun on R2s last day, all crews home on the 6/10...

Ashes, photos heading your way soon...

Country Fire Service / Re: Firefighter Response System
« on: September 13, 2011, 12:45:11 PM »
Clear as mud!

Good to see people explaining things when clarification has been sought!!!

99.9% (-ish this isn't an official statistic!) of the time, a CFS brigade will receive a response via a page from adelaide fire.

That page has to be acknowledged by each responding brigade within 6 mins or they will default. This can be done via phone or radio.

Once a crew has assembled and the appliance is ready to/leaving the station that appliance is to "book mobile" that is advise adelaide fire on that appliances response on their regional talkgroup. 124 for R1, 093 for R2, etc.

The FRS theoretically fits in between the turnout page and the appliance leaving the station but only at a local level. What it allows is the first 1 or 2 members or officers arriving at the station to have an idea of who else is responding and a general idea of how long they might be (assume they're responding from home or work and you may know how long that takes.).

Neither the FRS or TIMS should affect the way a brigade responds, just provide information on crewing and personnel...

Hope this helps!!

Emergency Vehicles / Re: New Rescue van for CFS
« on: March 17, 2011, 09:11:27 PM »
But as had been said before, if you have a stand alone rescue vehicle of any sort, you still need a fire appliance for fire cover.....

Pip

C'mon this is basic stuff everybody should know...

SOP 2.1 Initial resource response shedule

Incident type: Road crash rescue

Response to incident: 1st alarm (initial response)

1xRescue
1xTANKER (for fire cover)

So, THEORETICALLY (yes i know theory doesn't always work) every time a rescue appliance rolls another tanker should be on the go as well, regardless of whether the said rescue appliance has water or not.

I beleive the RARTOs are using it for upskills, general running around, etc. and its based at Brukunga.

Ive had a look over it and been for a joyride.

The concept is great but the execution needs a LOT of work. Using a different vehicle platform (rather than the cheapest available vehicle) would be an excellent start. A larger vehicle would be preferential.

The fume issue is because the pump is mounted on a sliding carriage in the back. Even with the carriage in the out position, the upward hingeing rear door directs fumes straight back into the cabin area. (The rear door is also too low for the average person to stand upright under. Fully opening doors (like the ambulances) would help prevent this while staying out of the way. Some sort of divider between the passenger compartment and load area would also be more beneficial.

My thoughts only, it all comes down to $$$ and the concept was built on a pretty tight budget.

Me too. However, i think he meant (i was looking at this for a good couple of minutes!) that said "wet conditions" won't be too bad from 4am to 10am but from 10am onwards, conditions potentially could deteriorate...  :?

19:34:21 29-01-11 Due to severe fire danger and extreme heat warning North Region LoP is at Yellow. Check email for Ops Plan. NRDO - SES North Region

Just having a look at the paging site and came across this message. Nothing earth shattering about it other than it was repeated 60 times. Surely they can send out a general info message to everyone who needs to know instead of sending the same message individually?

I'm only making an assumption here, but perhaps that pager group is set up like brigades. Send one message to the response number of a CFS brigade and it automatically copies to the group officers paging group.
The SES in this case might have it set up like that rather than the CFS regional numbers etc. which just send it to everyone in that region in the one paging group.

Why let CFS use K-codes when most can't even use the phonetic alphabet correctly. There's only 26 words in that and the first letter is a dead giveaway, yet so many can't even do that...

Just on this same topic, have any other brigades had ten year medals turn up for members who havent been around for 5 or so years? funny stuff, just another waste of $$$.

If the said member had completed their 10yrs of service prior to leaving, then despite no longer being a member, (for some inexplicable reason) they are entitled to a medal.
Being CFS sometimes these things take a while to come through. Last year we had a member with 19yrs (on TAS) receive their 10yr...

Just to clarify, because obviously some people aren't aware. Appliance "codes" ending in "9" (i.e. "19" - CFS   "**9" - MFS   "029" - SES are all rescue units).
"00" On a CFS code means fire only (may have chainsaw, BA, etc) while "28" on a CFS code is HAZMAT. "42" is a BWC.

year 12 muck up day!

Gone are the good old days of dusting your teachers with flour and hosing them off with warm water.....

having said that...the big smilie face with roundup on the oval is still my favourite.....

I remember throwing water bombs off the top balcony on my final day as a year 12 student  but then again that couldnt top my last day of primary school when i stuffed toilet paper in the exhaust pipe of one of the teachers cars

Or writing stuff on the roof of the only 2 storey building in the school so no-one see's it until the next aerial photo!!

All Equipment discussion / Re: New CFS Village Pumper
« on: November 06, 2010, 09:40:02 AM »
Firstly, its no narrower than a 14, which is the appliance type it is superceeding. The idea isnt for places with narrow streets, but areas which could do with a second appliance which is larger than a QRV but still significantly smaller than a 34 or 34p.

Size wise it is similar to the mitsi 14s not 100% sure but water is up around 1500-1600lts.

The "pumper" tag is irrevelant here, it will be designated a 14. Pumper comes from the tasfire designation, where any truck carrying BA is a pumper. Yes, it has stowage for BA.

The appliance, last i heard, will be based from birdwood while in the trial/prototype period, being taken to other brigades/groups/regions for weeks at a time for demonstrations and trials.

Yes its the same appliance from the last infralog.
