Have a watch of that video, it would be somewhat similar to our Sprinter ambulances I would imagine :)

SA Firefighter General / Young Drivers and MVA
« on: January 27, 2011, 08:05:52 PM »
A fairly frequent news topic is that of young drivers and their over representation in the serious injuries and road death tolls.

I thought it would be interesting to see a few people's opinions on this topic. We have quite a broad cross-section here so it would be good to see what you have to say.

Is it just a part of life? Are the kids who don't have the presence of mind or maturity to understand the power of their vehicle, their lack of experience/skill and the ramifications of their actions the ones to die?

As a young driver myself, I never wanted to drive risky because:

A) I don't want to die and I wouldn't be able to handle it if I killed or injured a friend or someone in another vehicle.
B) I couldn't afford to fix my car if I damaged it and it was a gift from my grandpa, so it is sentimental to me.
C) I have family friends that have told me many stories of young drivers killing themselves or their friends and I would be embarrassed if I did something the similar
D) I also think people who drive stupidly are just pathetic and have no respect for themselves or other people
E) I couldn't afford to lose or delay my licence for my career choice and I couldn't afford to pay the fines!

Lookin forward to what you have to say!

SAAS / Something strange...
« on: January 02, 2011, 04:07:21 PM »
Hey guys,

I hate to bring private companies up again, but I've noticed that there has been a Paramedical Services ambulance sitting near the intersection of East and North Tces. It was parked on the parklands side where you have to pay and display but now it's out the front of ETC in a loading zone or something. It's been there days, maybe even a week. I don't know if it moves during the day, but its been there every night. Anyone got any ideas?

SA Firefighter General / Alarms
« on: December 28, 2010, 02:03:45 AM »
What's the difference between Respond Alarm and Respond Private Alarm? Is an Alarm a system that notifies MFS directly and a Private Alarm notifies a third party like security?

Also, what's an ASE device?

SAAS / Black Car
« on: October 25, 2010, 01:43:45 AM »
The other day while I was driving to uni down Belair Rd I saw a black VE Calais with grill and dash LEDs and a guy in SAAS greens driving it. It did not have any ambulance markings. I've never seen it before, let alone any coloured SAAS cars. What could it be?

SAAS / Other emergency ambulance service?
« on: September 24, 2010, 03:50:22 AM »
I have seen (twice now) a white Sprinter that has Rescue Ambulance written on it (red and yellow livery) with red/red roof lights and the wording about mine maritime industrial rescue on the rear quarters.

Who is this company? Are they allowed to have red lights since that is an emergency vehicle colour?

SAAS / New Healthcare forums
« on: May 24, 2010, 04:20:03 AM »
Hey guys,

I was looking on the internet and realised there are no forums for AUSTRALIAN healthcare workers of all different types to meet and discuss.

As a result I created http://aushealth.forumup.com.au/

So far I have made forums for some SA hospitals and for State Amb services, including SAAS. I will continue to make more forums for different hospitals and professions as the days progress and hopefully we can create a community where professional people can meet and talk about this world of medicine.

Spread the word and I am happy to take up your advice (my username is TomGleeson which is also my name....lol)

SAMFS / Julia Farr
« on: February 20, 2010, 08:40:38 PM »
Just wondering what type of alarm the fire at Julia Farr would have been? This was late last year and at first it was thought that it was the actual hospital part and not the abandoned building next to it.

I was at the fire and noticed there was HAZMAT BA, 1 CFS truck, Bronto, Command Vehicle, 1 Ambulance, SAAS TL, SAPOL detectives, unmarked MFS vehicles.

I was there with the State Controller for disasters (health and medical), so I assuming it was the highest level response?

ALL Rescue / Cool RCR Videos
« on: February 19, 2010, 06:36:29 PM »
Hey guys,

Found a couple of good videos of RCR's on YT. The first one is essentially a training/documentary style video and shows a simulation extrication from the drivers point of view: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8qLJZnUbRAw - UK

The second is news footage of an RCR in the US Car v Tree w/ two trapped.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=plNHqCf1FlQ - US

Thoughts?

Tom
