SA Firefighter General / Speeding Past Emergency Vehicles
« on: November 01, 2006, 04:11:58 PM »
How many brigades have experienced vehicles exceeding the 40 k/ph speed limit past emergency vehicles at an incident.

The answer would be all I think

Ive been doing some research on this topic, and have actually had a driver charged with this offence after speeding through an incident.

Ive included some info in relation to the offences and how much the fines are for info

Road Traffic Act 1961

s 83(1)(a) Speeding while passing emergency vehicle

Exceeding 40 kph while passing an emergency vehicle—

by less than 15 kph    169
by 15 kph or more but less than 30 kph 269
by 30 kph or more 350

78(1)
Moving into path of police or emergency vehicle 260

78(2)
Failing to move out of path of police or emergency vehicle 260

79(1)
Failing to give way to police or emergency vehicle 260

Should you experience these sorts of offences dont hesitate to report the culprits, and they do get followed through by SAPOL

Country Fire Service / CABA Accreditation
« on: October 23, 2006, 10:32:12 AM »
Anyone who has a CABA refresher coming up make sure you get in before you expire or you will be sent home.

STC is clamping down on wearers being out of date prior to refresher courses.

There is some upskilling in the current courses, and instructors are focussing on search techniques,primary/secondary including confined space, casualty handling, guideline tying, rolling hose lines in to a job etc.

A one day course to get you up there and reaccredited but well worth it

Consider this a HEADS UP :-D

SA Firefighter General / Driver Training Video-Getting there safely
« on: August 21, 2006, 05:25:33 PM »
In a recent post re Freeway I mentioned a video which was available by CFA called "Getting there safely" which follows the crew from Geelong CFA around and is a good driver training video for brigades.
I have made contact with CFA HQ and they are sending me a copy of it.
They dont have an issue with copying for other brigades who would like it.
Might actually make some drivers aware of their obligations of COSO 8 and ARR rules :-D
