Also, i think you'll find the CFS is control agency for all fires in a CFS area.  MFS is only the control agency in MFS area.

Yes you are correct, fingers typed quicker than brain reacted

Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha
The leaked document were items put up by CFS to government as cost saving ideas ... knowing full well that Government would not accept them!
Got to love how items are leaked, the media picks up on it and then the gullible public and members of this forum fall for it all.
GREAT Political action though .... bought the government a few more months

Funny - a lot of cranks on this site, where happy to fling mud at other services when they were having difficulty recruiting, now when its one of our own, its a differnent story........
Regardless of the service or pay scale, its a sad day when members of the community are unable to assist their own community through the provision of emergency services.
For the sake of the community, lets how comon sence prevails and the community can rally benid their emergency services

CFA just as CFS has rural/bush fire as its primary legislative role! After all we are the control agency for .... rural fire, MFS have urban, we share Hazmat with MFS, Police have rescue and SES have severe weather and flood, SO the report is correct from a primary focus. Also the majority of our funding goes to bushfire prevention, poreparedness and response.
If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, swims like a duck ... aint it a duck??

What a great thing, for both Euan and CFS. Euan has lead and steered CFS for a number of years, fought many fights with government, got CFS monies when government was reducing and focused CFS forward .... his job just as those before him is done ..... Stuart Ellis et all.
Now a new Chief can have a go to continue to push CFS forward, giving CFS new direction and new opportunities, just as Euan will give that to CFA.
All the best Euan ..... at least you wont have far to go to watch Geelong play footy now!

SASES / Re: Rope Rescue
« on: February 05, 2010, 11:03:12 AM »
For the record, the Mets were taught rope rescue intially by the STAR Group and Police Rescue.

The SASES is great, but they are still seen as being the traffic control for the Mets and the people to do the legwork of SAPOL for searches.

They do great work, but duplication upon duplication. Give SASES vertical and rope rescue, mets the other stuff in their AOR and the CFS the same.

Yes accidents happen... its kinda hard not to have accidents when you're doing rescues when the rescuerers themselves are in danger.

Btw Single rope all the Way

REALLY .... in our group and most of those neighbouring, we struggle to get one truck out the door, let alone two during the day. Despite the BS that some post on here and CFS sprout, we dont want, nor could we cope with additional work loads and responses. IF we could get training in what we do now and have all of our brigade and all of our Group and all of the Region meet its SFEC, then we might look at other stuff.

In relation to rope rescue .... mfs did have sapol deliver, but then went private, through a great adelaide hills based supplier and training provider ... unfortunately this has all lapsed and there are very few with any competencies left

Yet again rumours continue to spread.

STAR and SOTS (SAAS) train with SES regularly and use SES specialist trainers to accredit their people. In industry, we too use SES to accredit people, to ensure that a national standard can be achieved that meets the needs of our OHS&W requirments for staff.

Although, if we need rumours, we also have private companies teach fire fighting in industry, maybe we should take over fire fighting if others can't get it right.

Time to grow up .... ever service unfortunately has accidents and injuries, unfortunately, we often go where angels would fear to tread, that is why others phone 000 and we respond!

« on: January 28, 2010, 07:05:14 PM »
Doesnt appear that MBSES is closing at all - they have been extremely busy over the last week with a couple of serious RCR incidents.

Funny that people rumour closing of a servis rather than getting more people in to help. We all suffer from poor response numbers some times or hardships or challanges within our services, yet we dust our selves off, get back on our feet and serve our community ..... well at least that was and is one of my motivators for volunteering ....... filter slandering each other - we we need help, it is often the SES or MFS from neighbouring towns that happily support us and we of course readily return the favour!

Country Fire Service / Re: CFS STAFF BEING VOLUNTEER OFFICERS
« on: May 13, 2009, 05:18:42 PM »
Its a pity the new Region One RC didn't focus on building the region, encouraging more volunteers, getting better funding for equipment and training and reducing the workload on Volunteers - rather than sticking the knife into his own - if he does that to a peer, what chance do we have as Volunteers.

HOWEVER ... maybe, if this is to be reviewed, nows the time to add competencies to all positions, from SFF through to and including CO. Competencies that needs to be adhered to, maintained and most importantly kept current.

How confident are you that the people you respond with or are deployed with have the currency and competency to get you out of trouble when it counts.

However we ask employers not to discriminate, to let their staff go, regardless of their importance in the system, but internally we question those who, in their free time, time when they are not paid, so could then be volunteering!

SAMFS / Re: MFS at Nuri
« on: July 18, 2008, 03:47:32 PM »
Retained is not the solution. Accros the state MFS struggle to get applinances out of the door with retained crews, just as CFS, SES and SAAS do with Volunteer crews.

The issue is not the members - it's the employment situation and people needing to make money to live, which unfortunately effects the services all three ESOs deliver to their communities.

Like it or not, regardles of the service or provision, the only way anyone can ensure a response is to pay people - meaning they are sitting there waiting.

Maybe it's time that the government stopped making surpluses and looked at paid fire fighters and paid rescuers and paid medico's in more areas of the state - even if it's only to cover the day time shortage.

:-D At last an official course, that said with all of the other urban style training that CFS has offered over the years (and led the state in - live fire, compartment, tactical leadership etc) it was only a matter of time before a course on boosters and FIP's was written. Well done to the STC team.

Despite some of the other comments, a number of brigades and groups in the state have been attending FIP's, boosters etc for years - with training by the installers at the time, with linkages to their pre planning.

They are nothing new in CFS and oveer the years, with CFS having input into the systems (via Mike Gent and others) they would work with brigades to ensure they were aware of the systems, its operations and the fire fighter interface.

What a good thing!

Better fire service coverage for Adelaide, ensuring that SAMFS can meet the national bench market standard of eight minutes coverage. Now the other few holes in metropolitan Adelaide might also be able to be filled - future planning :-)

What a great thing!

The better the burn now, the less for next years fire season.

GREAT to see national sparks burning again and with some vigour!

Back to the original posting - CFS needing more appliances!

from all reports, far and wide, forget the more appliances we need more members first and foremost and then we need to train them!

SA Firefighter General / Re: SAAS Responding Other Services..
« on: January 04, 2007, 07:34:37 AM »
I think it only a matter of time and CFS will be auto default for SAAS in rural areas as long as crews have done a first responder course. The CFA is going that way in some area's of that state and from what I did hear is working well.

Blinky - more likely the emergency services, not specifically CFS. There are a number of areas around the state where additional training is currently occuring and soon additional equipment will be implemented to assist in the shortfalls and to provide local backup - for life threat only, not transport and not Cat3 and below cases.

As you know we also already have several first responders - and these are CFS.

Do we build an applinace for the risks we (CFS) face, to for the risks others face???

CFS will undoubtedly turn this into a complete joke and make a laughing stock of any process they may have the states other 464 brigades following.

Compartment Fire Behaviour / Re: Using 25mm Sidereels at Structure Fires
« on: January 03, 2007, 07:29:12 AM »
Have used 25mm, 38 and 64 at structure fires - each has it's own application.

25mm when backed by a good pump (aka not one of the old 24 or 34 types) works well in a going structure, for direct attack only. easy to move through a house, and quick - no good however from a well involved area if you intend to minimise damage by gas cooling, however very effective for painting, penciling and direct attack to fire seat.

38mm is my weapon of choice for a going incident, great for knock down, great for gas cooling, penciling and painting and not to cumbersome to more through a domestic structure.

64mm - suround and drown people, this ones a car park - some services use this as their primary hose, as their main methoid is surround and drown. Good for large incidents, to commence the initial knock down to allow possible entry - near impossible though to use inside

Fire Fighter Training / Re: Emergency Driving/Traffic Control course
« on: December 12, 2006, 08:14:32 AM »
mmmmm - good idea for SAPOL to train us volunteers in traffic control, means they can negate their obligation and legislative responsability to do it?????

On the other hand - emergency driving ...... about time CFS removed it's digits from the dark places and reacted to this one - after all every time we roll we undertake emergency driving ..... and as yet, are we trained ..... sadly for some of our people over the years, no and it has showed - poor form by CFS managment - they train and train and train us in what to do when we arrive, they just cant get their acts together to train us how to get their safetly!!

SA Firefighter General / Re: New Green Uniforms
« on: December 12, 2006, 08:10:10 AM »
Also saw this at Waikerie - being worn by a Volunteer from the para Group who was on the IMT and also field ops - looked a lot better than jeans and a t-shirt or polo shirt - at least it was a professional look - as opposed to someone else I saw in the IMT in shorts and old t-shirt.

Would be excellent for fire investigation and all IMT work and starts to show CFS as a professional organisation - uniformed.
Pity it clashes though with the blue stuff instructors are wearing at the State Training centre - but thats CFS for you - many standards...

I guess CFS must be flushed with funds, if it can afford to build applinaces to service another services area!

SAMFS / Re: Pumper Tankers
« on: November 09, 2006, 02:23:39 PM »
I don't think they would be on a 4x4, i think they were looking at the Isuzu 1400 the same as lofty tanker so i don't know what they would be called, probably pumper tanker would be easiest and most descriptive.

Maybe they could put portable pumps on them and make them as rude and agricultural as the lofty tanker

« on: November 09, 2006, 02:06:24 PM »
I think you'll find yourself a little annoyed when you get slammed up the rear by a B-double doing 100Km/h when you've slowed down to 40...

The transport industry is generally a lot more switched on than the general public when it comes to slowing down - sure they may not reach 40 (probally don't want to change that many gears) however on the whole, they slow a lot more than cars do!

Agree - don't care who it is doing what, if they have lights on slow the filtered down!
